Obey all Traffic Laws
Bikes are considered vehicles and riders must adhere to all traffic signs, lights, and crosswalks.
Make Yourself Visible
Use reflectors and wear eye-catching clothing to avoid accidents. Use a white headlight and red taillight.
Ride With the Flow of Traffic
Ride in the same direction as other vehicles.
Ride on the Right
Stay on the right half of the road where drivers expect you to be.
Don’t Ride on Sidewalks
Sidewalks are meant for pedestrians only. An exception is made for children under 13.
Use Bike Lanes
When available, use the section of the road specifically intended for bikes.
Use Hand Signals
Use hand signals to alert drivers and other cyclists to your movements. To signal a left turn, extend your left arm from your chest until it’s straight. To signal a right turn, bend your right arm up into an L shape. To signal a stop, bring your arm down to your side and out about a foot.
