Hi there everyone. I’m not sure if this is the right forum but I think so. I created my first article on wikihow the other night and it got marked for deletion. I’ve read the automatic suggestions and made some adjustments, but I’m wondering if someone could give me some feedback on whether the page now appears to be in compliance. Here is the page in question: http://www.wikihow.com/Cite-a-Web-Site-in-APA-With-No-Author%2C-Date%2C-or-Page-Number I got notifications about branding, converting it to wikihow format, and adding pictures. Here is what I did to attempt to get the page into acceptable format: 1. For branding, I think it’s because I had my link in the warnings section, which I removed. I did leave my link in the sources section, but it’s a specific link to a larger discussion on the same issue in case the reader wants a more complete description. I don’t sell anything on my site or have ads on it, and the information is actually great (better than what I have been able to find online, which is why I made my own page on this issue and also a nice streamlined step-by-step version for wikihow). If that’s a problem of course I can remove it but I honestly wouldn’t see the problem in that case. I’ve been editing in APA for years and this is all legitimate, helpful info. There is another wiki on a similar topic but it does not address the situation I address. 2. For the notification about wikihow format, I think that was because my responses didn’t all start with an action verb. Most of them did, but I went through and fixed a few instances in that regard. 3. For pictures, I actually have a video on youtube that walks people through the steps, but when I search for my video through the wikihow feature, it doesn’t come up for some reason, so I added the link to it. (maybe it’s because the video is new on youtube?). Thank you in advance for any information or assistance that you can provide. Sorry about the long post but I just wanted to make sure all if the info was on there! Take care and have a nice night, or day, wherever you are!

Oh. I see what they are talking about! Just needs a few simple edits and it will have great potential! First, get rid of the website links in your article. We concider that advertising. Next you will need to addd more detail. How do you get where you enter this information? How do you type it? A good idea would be to suggest a title change and include the website that the link was for in the title. Now you can include specific information for that site which will make the details come easier. If you need help, let me know!

I did a bit of cleanup. I deactivated the links, substituted a screenshot of the page in question for reference instead of the links… and changed passive steps to actionable ones. That should fix most of the issues. We’ll have to think through the whole NFD ADV thing… it might be okay now with ONLY one link in the citations.

@Born2B Me Ahh I see. That makes sense that the websites register as advertising, especially since I had it several times in the reference examples haha. @Loiswade42 Thanks so much for doing that Lois. The screenshot is great and very helpful. I went back in and tweaked the wording in Step 1 now that the url is gone, and in one of the other steps I put [insert full web address here, not in brackets] because I think it will be clearer than the deactivated domain names (the students will probably be confused about whether to include or omit http:// for instance). Thanks again to you both for your thoughtful feedback and improvements to the page. The community writing thing is pretty cool!

You’re welcome! And I agree … the community writing thing IS pretty cool!

Screenshots are always best where available. You did the right thing. Always contact an admin for advice when you have questions. Unfortunately, some people slap on an nfd without thinking of corrections or edits. All that does is add to the list of articles that have to be checked, collaborated, and - sooner or later someone has to do what should have been done in the first place. I’m glad you were able to save it. FYI: The URL in the Tips section could also have gone into Sources and Citations. Either way works.
