Krystle announced
that the Sept 2011 elections will be held in Oct. While adminship should not be considered a trophy
, it is an election process. The elections are closed to the public as well as confidential. There are many reasons why very established members may not become an admin while brand new users do. To best understand these reasons, you may want to bone up on the requirements
as well as contacting the current administrators
for some advice.
- If you are self-nominating, know the requirements
:
- Understand the responsibilities of being an admin
.
- Practice now! Users can do most things that admins can do.
If you are considering running for adminship, you may even benefit from asking current admins for feedback. I highlyrecommend this since this gives you an objective perspective at your chances. I will gladly provide feedback to any user who wants it. Leave a reply here and I’ll do my best to get back to you.
I have a question - when you’re deleting articles, why does a NFD tag have to be at least a week old?
Before the article is added to the NFD queue, it is given ample time (1 week) for anyone to make edits to save it from deletion.
Oh, that makes sense. Thanks!

For the namespace edits, nothing shows up…?
@Puppies568
go to http://whherald.co.cc/mainspace.php
<nowiki>,</nowiki> and type in your username in the box at the top. You might have to wait a minute for it to load.

Oh, sorry, I’m impatient at times…
Where can I self-nominate?

This is a great reminder, Mike, thanks! For those eager to self-nominate…please wait until self-nominations are actually announced, which will happen in the forums. It will be after admin nominations, which I’m planning to open on October 15.

Self-nominations are not yet open. Krystle will make an announcement so keep watching the forums.
I need 1000+ contributions? Why? I’m impatient to be a wikiHow admin and I may take a year to have 1000+ contributions.
I believe it is so that you have enough experience for the tasks that being an admin requires. You need to learn the Deletion Policy, what is vandalism and what isn’t, and how to stay calm when someone drives you absolutely insane.

You may want to ask yourself why you’re impatient. As I’ve stated before, non-admins can perform many of the same tasks that admins can. Adminship is NOT a trophy and does not give you “special treatment” within wikihow. Also, please note that an admin can nominate you regardless of the self-nomination criteria.

It’s not just the tasks and jobs around the site that editors can do on a similar basis alongside with administrators (there’s some regular chatters in wikiHow’s IRC that mirror/mimic the administrators in there just by patrolling regularly). Maturity is a very strong criteria, and as Andrew has stated pretty much on target, you need a level-headed mind and unbiased in any situation — there’s a lot of active administrators that have been in “I’m going to cringe, brb, I’m going to beat up a pillow before coming back to the keyboard” because of past editors attempting to get their way, manipulative tricks, trolling, and other things. The time duration of “getting the minimum contributions justto throw my name in the hat” shouldn’t even be a factor. It’s all about having fun and wanting to help the site.
