I want to know how much edits, how long you’ve been here, amount of RC, etc you have to do to be an admin.
You need at least 1,000 mainspace edits and 6 months on wH.

There’s a BIT more to it than that… -grins- but we have a great article on that topic which may be helpful to you… http://www.wikihow.com/Become-a-wikiHow-Admin
And I’d be willing to answer specific questions via my talk page if you need it as well.
If I’m reading it right, the article says that to run, you need 1,000 mainspace edits and 4 months of experience. To actually get elected, you have to do more. (But I could be reading it wrong

You qualify if you meet the requirements. The actual election is not entirely based on this. It’s mostly based on trust, experience, and how you communicate with others.
MY GUESS: Edits: 1000 Time: 4 months RC: 5000 10 or more threads in anything but GC

An administrator can nominate anyone, regardless of the requirements, since we trust their decisions. For self-nominations, you do have to meet some requirements, because almost every election we get someone who just joined this week, and wants to become an administrator, with having little to no experience. But, like @SudoKing
said, trust is a very big factor when it comes to elections. As with communication. If you talk with others in a short-tempered way or a way that only stirs trouble, it will be very hard to be an administrator. Finally contributions connects more with trust.

{sarcasm begins here} Yes there are. Behold, the list that they don’t want you to see: Error 707: Information cannot be displayed; this content was deleted by the admin cabal. Please try again, Martian. {sarcasm ends here}

You really do not understand the previous joke, do you? Not even with brackets? It was an exaggeration, not meant to be taken literally. There is only *one* secret admin feature that I have recently come in the knowledge of, and that is IP routing. In my opinion, only site employees and Bureaucrats should have the right to this tool, and even with that it should be used sparingly. Since this tool has no record of usage, we have no idea how many admins are tracing IP’s, even though the process is discouraged. (satire begins here) Aside from that, the secrets of being *nominated* are: Don’t criticize policies. Make a ridiculous amount of contributions, too much for the average person with responsibilities (work, school, non-wiki volunteering, etc.) “Befriend” current admins and get into the wiki-buddy system. Have no history of arguing for any point and attempt to maintain a “balanced” facade despite slamming newcomers with the troll reputation after they make mistakes. (satire ends here)

I think what you’re talking about is something called “checkusers” =) This isn’t actually a feature for all admins, it is limited to only 9 users on the site, who are listed here
. They aren’t allowed to use this feature whenever they wish, only when there is significant suspicion of a malicious sockpuppet and they need evidence to back this up.

Hey, could we please avoid the sarcasm, satire, etc. comments? Despite the fact that people see or want to think about all of this in a jokely and lightly heartened manner, others do take this seriously.
As far as I’m aware, the requirements are: * 1000 namespace edits. * 4 months on wikiHow. * Knowledge of wikiHow’s policies and mission. * A history of kindness, level-headed and civil behavior, and mature judgement. * A desire to help wikiHow become it’s goal, and understanding that adminship is merely a set of tools, not a trophy. However, it depends - choosing an admin is a complicated decision that changes depending on the nominee.

@Twoscompany
Great summary. Those are for self-nominations, by the way.

One thing to remember is that adminship is not a trophy or a status symbol. Admin’s don’t have a cool club where they all hang out. To be an admin is to have the ability to make additional changes to wikiHow. But ultimately, it’s about trust. Can a user show that they can be trusted with additional responsibilities based on their previous contributions?
That’s because it doesn’t exist. Anyway, I think @Twoscompany
comment summed it up pretty well, so thank you!

A secret IRC channel or hidden page?
Yes. It’s called talk pages.
With slushies and Xbox 360s.
Yep. And they all have magic unicorns, too.
