Hey guys! OK, well, there’s a lot to know about being/getting elected Admin, so, I thought I would post a thread, feel free to post anything (About wikiHow.), in any process, for Admin. Like, getting elected, self-nominations, being an Admin, what Admin-ship is NOT, and getting suggestions, of wrether or not you want to be. Feel free to post! June Days

These two articles provide all the information anyone interested in becoming an administrator should find helpful: http://www.wikihow.com/Become-a-wikiHow-Admin
http://www.wikihow.com/Act-as-a-wikiHow-Admin
I’ve gathered that being an admin is not something to be sought after. Being an admin means you have more responsibilities to the site. The power an admin wields should not be bestowed on just any user.

Well said Maluniu and Sudo. I would only add this: If you’re thinking that adminship will be some sort of kudos, power, status, or reward? Then your thinking is waaaaaaaay off. All it is? Is a hefty sense of responsibility and a willingness to do extra work around the site with little or no recognition. We admins are fairly picky about who we elect because those three “extra” buttons (Rename an article, Delete an article, and Block a user) that admins are entrusted with can so easily be mis-used if one is not careful. We have to know that the candidate is trustworthy, has a good working knowledge of the site, interacts helpfully with others, is not prone to knee jerk reactions, can stay calm and helpful under pressure, doesn’t miss much while patrolling, and is here for the long haul. That’s a pretty high standard… especially for a volunteer!
getting being admin? might want to work on that one.
Very true, I posted this thread (Should have with links to those articles, thank you Jordan.), for any needs, with extra questions, asking direct questions, that maybe aren’t in the articles.

Another thing that you can do is start doing things admins would do. Go to the NFD’d articles http://www.wikihow.com/Category:Nominations-for-Deletion
and leave your say on the discussion page. Make sure you know all of wikiHow’s policies. If you see an article that needs to be renamed, place a title tag on it with the title suggested. All of these things can help you, whether you become admin or not.
Indeed. Adminship is not a Valentine’s Day card. I love all of our admins, but I could easily imagine that I could dislike someone on a personal level and still think they would make good administrators. Likewise, I can think of a few people who I like personally and would still not want them to be admins, in no small part because their attitude towards adminship is all wrong. Let’s talk about that
one for a while. If you come into wikiHow with the attitude that this is a video game and that adminship is some achievement to be unlocked or a Final Boss to be defeated, then you are doing it wrong. Since I’m fond of chainsaw analogies today, let’s just say adminship is a chainsaw
. Or rather, three buttons capable of doing an awful lot of damage and unleashing an awful amount of drama, plus being the Face of wikiHow to some degree (which is not status, it is a responsibility). That’s all, and you can be the best furniture designer in the world or the coolest person I know and I still might not want you wielding a chainsaw. And when you think about it, the kind of person who talks about how cool it would be to destroy shit with a chainsaw is the opposite of the kind of person you’d trust with a chainsaw
.

Also: If you ask a question which is already answered in the various documents on wikiHow, then that also
shows that you’re not ready for adminship, because an admin should be someone smart enough and motivated enough to find out the answers for themselves. but wat do i no lol im not an admin
LOL, nice Lewis.

Off topic a bit - you seem very interested in the admin elections, considering your thread creations. Are you running or something?
Nopper-doodle!
But to be honest, I was thinking of it the other day, but the Admin thought I should try for next time, and that’s okay. I just get excited when these happen, anyone remember September? I created a few threads then too. June Days
Any more advice, now that the self-nominations are open? (In other news, sent in my interview shortly after having gotten 1,000 mainspace edits…I didn’t intend for it to work that way, oddly enough.)
^ Chances are I’m going to have to keep that well in mind.
A good bit of advice is not to get mad if you aren’t elected (or at least not to publicly get mad). Reacting with grace and good humor could serve you well if you choose to run in the next election.
I think I first tried in like 2008, lol. Even if you were to fall short once, it’s hard to beat my record (7 times and counting, lol…)
