As I was creating this article: http://www.wikihow.com/Knit-Stockinette-Stitch I tried to add alternate methods, but after previewing they would disappear and I would lose the text. I’m using mac 10.5 with google chrome.

Were you using guided editor or advanced editor?

What I do is go to Advanced Editor, add the new sub sections, with some filler text and then go back to guided editor.

Problem too. But now we’ve lost the alternate methods box entirely. After saving as draft and clicking advanced, opening advanced with prev draft, brings me back to guided. Was able to change default editor temporarily(back&forth) Please bring back that box. It’s awful helpful!!!

@Krystle : I was using the guided editor.

@krystle , same here, and when you edit an article with alternate methods, it brings it up in advanced editor, regardless of the method of creation… what a pain to type!!!
