What should we do if there’s something that comes up in RC Patrol relating to a comment a user made on an article discussion page that’s inappropriate? Like if it’s gibberish or just plain swearwords, don we just skip it or mark it as patrolled, or what?
You can revert it like you would with any inappropriate edit or comment. If the Rollback option isn’t there, you can click Quick Edit, highlight the message, delete it and publish the changes - it has the same effect. And if you’re not sure what to do with it, you can skip it so someone else can review it.
You are fine reverting messages on talk pages if they seem to be inappropriate and/or unhelpful.
Unfortunately, profanity, while we do not like it, is something that we may encounter on the site. This is because we have a general audience and are not exactly a “kids site” per se
. If you find helpful comments that contain profanity on talk pages, you can simply add {{ID}} to the top of the talk page. This will produce this message and a long break:
This discussion page may contain offensive language. If you are easily offended by such language, please do not read the contents below.
At the same time, cursing is not something I recommend you do on this site.
This was really helpful, thanks!
No problem. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask on the Help Team
page.
