Is there absolutely no way to block users from the forums? Earlier today there was a situation where 4 users (3 of whom were blocked from the main site at the time) were trolling on threads in category suggestions, bug reports, etc. All we could do was to close the thread in question and watch them move on to the next. One of these users was blocked from the main site… for being 10 years old.

Honestly, I’d rather deal with the external link spammers in the previous forum rather than this.

I found a way to hack the forums so that this shouldn’t be an issue anymore. Basically I made it so that anyone who’s blocked can’t even see the forums. When they try to visit the forums, this is what they’ll see:When they type in a URL directly to a certain thread, they still won’t be able to access the forums. They’ll see a message saying they don’t have an email specified in their preferences. Note that if someone who is NOT blocked starts seeing both of these issues, it may be that they were once blocked, and it “stuck” in the forums, so they’ll need to be manually unblocked, which is something I can help with.

It’s all okay… just awkward when you can’t block people like the old forums when you get a huge wave of nonsense posts.

Ok, so after that mess…lol…Travis implemented a new hack that redirects blocked users to http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Blocked-on-the-forums
when they try to visit the forums. Yay!
