Bumping is posting to an thread that has not had posts for a while, typically greater than two weeks. In most forums, for the post to be considered a bump, there is the additional criterion that the post adds nothing significant to the thread, In the wikiHow forums, that is not always the case. Sometimes, threads are closed or the post is called a bump even when it is a legitimate post which could expand and rekindle the discussion. Usually, a bump also carries the implication that the post was made primarily to keep the discussion in front of the community when the thread would have otherwise sunk out of sight and out of mind (and the post brings little or no benefit to the community).
