Just to let you guys know that there are few miscategorized requested articles in “Mozilla Thunderbird” category. They belong to either an Automobile or Airplanes categories. The requesters of these articles may be waiting for them forever to be created because they are sitting in the “computers” category. I have reported the 3 miscategorized articles back in November, and one tonight, in the “Impossible Task” section of the “Suggested Topics to Delete”.

On a similar topic, does this link actually do anything? http://www.wikihow.com/Special:ManageSuggestedTopics
@Lojjik
, I think you misunderstood … I am saying that the few requested articles are NOT supposed to be in Mozilla Thunderbird category. Those I reported belong to Automotive, and Airplanes categories and should be removed from Mozilla Thunderbird’s. If you be so kind , go to “Suggested Topics to Delete” and read the titles that I reported. =)

@Laura7491
, no the link I’m talking about is different. It’s only available to boosters/admins, but does it actually do anything?
Laura, When you search for a term, it’s pulling up all articles that contain that word. Whether or not the term will pull up all computer/electronics articles or automotive articles, the search page will pull both of these up. Like you said here, it seems like you’ve searched “Thunderbird”…Thunderbird, while pulling up a significant amount of computer articles, Thunderbird is also a car and so, those that have the word “thunderbird” in their requested title also come up in the list.
@Byankno1
Hi Chris,
OK, Chris, I understand, but it will complicate the search for the Thunderbird car and airplanes, because like you say it’s going to pull tons of Thunderbird related articles. Frankly, if I needed to find a particular article on Ford Thunderbird and I got tons of non-related articles I would be really upset as it’d take a LOT OF time to browse thru… But why is it so difficult to move an article to a right category? I’d do it in no time if I had an authority. Sometimes it takes more time to talk and talk… and talk about it than actually do it. LOLOL
@Laura7491
Trying not to be the bearer of bad (unexpected) news, however, the only time an article is categorized from a requested item, is when or after it’s been first published as a new article. If it’s in the wrong category on the list, it can still be corrected when the article is published. Choose the category for the new requested article that best suits the situation and write from there. Don’t worry what category the item is chosen under in the list of Requested articles.
@Byankno1
, … hey Chris , " … the only time an article is categorized from a requested item, is when or after it’s been first published as a new article." <<— I disagree . Once again it 's about a search for an article that is mingled in other (wrong!) category. It’s just plain lazyness of the people who don’t want to do it. I guess I don’t understand because I am a pro-active gal and would do if I had a tool and authority.
It does, but it’s not particularly useful in my opinion. You can accept/reject requested article topics.
On the topic at hand, I have no idea if a suggested topic is able to be re-categorized. To be honest, I don’t even know how
to categorize them in the first place.
@Tiagoroth
, From the page @Hibou8
mentioned (only accessible to Admins and NABers BTW), it won’t let you recategorize a request. You can edit the requested title (after doing the research for duplicates), and pretty much nothing else! From prior knowledge of hearing about a separate tool that is Admin-only, I don’t know if the other requested tool is able to recategorize the articles. ( @Laura7491
Having known Laura for a few years and her knowledge of Thunderbird, she apparently is running a search for this term, is finding articles with that term (finding both the mail program Thunderbird and the Thunderbird car) and the rest is self-explanatory as noted above (or at least that’s the way I took it)).

I’ll tag you all just in case. There are three links in my link bar dedicated to requested articles: The first one is the board for suggestions to delete
. This is where users post the titles of suggested topics they think are fit to be removed. The second one is called “ Manage Suggested Topics
”. On this page, I can accept or reject requested topics, or change the title of requested topics before approving them. Here is a screenshot
. I believe this is restricted to admins and boosters. The third one is called “ Manage Suggestions
”. On this page, I can search for existing suggestions to delete, add my own suggestions (I assume this bypasses the “Manage Suggested Topics” queue), and delete suggestions. I copy the titles from the board mentioned above, and paste them in this section to delete. Here is a screenshot of the tool
. Here is a screenshot of the page I get after searching for a request to delete
. I believe this is restricted to admins. The only other links I am aware of are the ones used to request a topic
, and to browse existing requests
. As far as I can tell, categorization exists only in the initial request, and when browsing requests. It seems to be a relatively useless (and broken) feature, and I don’t believe there is any way for somebody to change the category of a suggested topic unless the suggestion is deleted and re-added.
