With all the work going on in the categories lately, we have a community project that’s come up to help move some published/indexed articles out of categories that are going to be deleted. If you have time to help, that would be amazing!

Here’s what to do:

  1. Go to the spreadsheet here: Category Project - Google Sheets
  2. Put your name in Column E of the line you’re going to work on.
    Please only claim one at a time, and be sure you can complete it within the next 30min.
  3. Open the category page in column C in a window where you’re not logged in, like an incognito or private browser.
  4. Copy the link to the article that is published and open it in a browser where you’re logged in.
  5. Find the direct parent category of the one you’re in. Go to the top of the category page and you can copy it directly.
  6. Edit the article to remove the category to be deleted, and replace it with the one that you just copied. Add “Updating category” as a summary and click publish.
  7. Paste the new category you used in the “New Category” column
  8. Complete the process for all published articles in the category, then mark it complete in the spreadsheet and move to the next one if you’d like to do another.

Note: If you don’t think the parent category is appropriate for the article to be categorized in, you’re welcome to find a better fit! Just aim for a broader category.

If anyone wants to go through and just find the new categories, that’s fine too! You could add the parent category in Column D and leave the articles to be updated by someone else:slight_smile:

Wow there are only 12 categories left! I’ve put them up at the top of the sheet. Thanks to everyone who has helped out so far - it’s amazing what we can do together!:slight_smile:

I helped give the list some possible category suggestions except the one which i wasn’t completely understanding of, since the categories are still out there when i did the search for categories logged in.
