One of the things we heard loud and clear when we released the rough beta version of the Answer Questions tool was everyone wanted mooooore category choices for answering Q&A. From an engineering angle, that’s a more complicated request than it sounds, so it’s been a bit of a labor of love making more choices a reality. However, @AlissaB and @Bsteudel have put many weeks of hard work into it, and I’m happy to report they are now ready to release a v2:slight_smile:

If anyone is available to test it out, we’d love to have your input before it goes onto the Community Dashboard. If you spot bugs or any other issues, now is a good time to let us know, since they’re still ironing out some details. Do expect some changes and tweaks in the coming weeks… but it’s available to use now, if you’re game to give it a whirl!

One point to keep in mind: By design, this tool still doesn’t have *all* our categories, because of some engineering limitations - so go into it with your eyes open, knowing that it doesn’t have every single category from our category tree. Hoooowever, it does have a lot, and it’s divided into categories/subcategories that include articles from the smaller subcategories below that listed level, so it should cover a lot of the common Q&A areas. Hoping it gives everyone more choices than the beta version, at least!

Plus, I nominate this as the prettiest tool landing page UI we’ve ever had, right??

I can’t get past the landing page on Microsoft Edge. It doesn’t let me type in a category choice.

UPDATE: I watched when I opened the page. It stays for a millisecond, then closes up and disappears from the page. All other browsers on Windows 10 work just fine with this tool. Upset that I have to go to other browsers to use the tool.

Great tool. Had to enable a category choice in another browser. Then things began working correctly in the tool on Edge. Urgh.

Hah, they’re still working on the UI to make it more clear - that’s one of the tweaks to come. But there’s nothing to type: you click on a category on the right hand side:slight_smile:

Please refresh this page for my updated response @Anna .

Hmm, that does sound odd - for a fresh start, maybe try clearing your cookies? You’ll only get that main landing page the first time, but then you should be able to change categories on the right anyway. I had Scott just test it out on Edge and it was working fine for him, but maybe at your leisure sometime you can shoot me a screencast of what you’re seeing?

Hah ok:smiley:

… I am in love with this tool now. It’s so much prettier and it’s a lot fancier than our other tools, being honest (which is mildly weird but IT’S SO FANCY). @Anna , tell Alissa and Bebeth thank you for me:stuck_out_tongue:

Nice - I will, @Galactic-Radiance

Great upgrade, so much more simple to use.

This is really cool! I just checked it out.

This tool is awesome!

Yeah, I have a suggestion. We should have the option to keep our name private so it doesn’t show up on the answer.

@Batreeqah Building on your idea. Perhaps give us this option, whether we want to show up as our name on the server for answers to others’ questions. It should be our choice whether we want our name to show or not. PLease… It could even be as simple as a checkbox or swipe bar (on-off switch).

@Batreeqah +1

@Batreeqah @Byankno1 @McDonalds Ah, good to know that some folks would appreciate that option. Offering more choices/preferences within the tool is always a bit of a struggle as space runs out - don’t want things to end up too cluttered or distracting… But that doesn’t mean it’s not doable in one way or another. I’ll pass on your thoughts so Alissa can add it to their list, and hopefully they can work out some way to address that as a preference. In the meantime, though, if there are any specific Q&A answers you want your username removed from, just shoot me a note on my talk page - I can get that cleaned up for you.

Glad you’re liking it, @WikihowSaver , @XxVxX , and @Gymnast-7

Oh @Batreeqah @Byankno1 and @McDonalds - Alissa had a good idea that might help for now, too; the tool is also available in the same form logged out, so if you do want to answer questions without a name, you can always open it in an incognito/logged-out browser. But she’s got your suggestion noted, too:slight_smile:

Cool!

The mobile web interface works perfectly. Looks great!

Love this tool, i’ve already answerd loads of questions xD

The internet is full of wonders, but it all comes at a price, even wikihow!
