Back in 2023, I mentioned within the wiki that I’d be checking on articles with the wrong illustration templates. It’s taken me quite some time to do that, and I finally got around to it.
My findings: Editors were actively using wrong templates asking for step-by-step pictures, illustrations and screenshots, though the screenshots tagged wrongly were a little light.
-
Illustrations
is the template to use when asking for illustrations for drawingarticles.
-
Pictures
is for step-by-step photos of non-drawingarticles.
-
Screenshots
are for images for computer/mobile processes.
I’ve taken it upon myself to devote time to adjust which template has been placed on which article, but I wanted to ensure editors know that these three templates have specific uses. Borderline cases should be templated as such (described according to these described information).
