Hullo people, anyway, I started an article on how to add basic HTML to your wikihow user-page, and was looking for ideas and suggestions. Thanks!
You can find it here!

When I saw this one in NAB, I just figured it might help to angle it from the point of view of what editors can’t do with regular wikiText, and need HTML for. Otherwise, it’s just sort of another way to do the b asic decoration topic
. But if it’s specific to HTML that can be used tastefully on user pages to do things that wikitext can’t do, it might stand better alone. I don’t use all that much HTML on my user page, though, so the folks who do might have more to add!
Tagging a few of the folks who have decorated page designs with color/borders/etc and might be able to help: @WikihowSaver

I do have some HTML knowledge behind me, but I don’t tend to utilize it too much on my User page. And as far as my Talk pages are concerned where the “real me” comes out in some border stylings, that was styled a bunch of years ago by another editor…and I don’t generally style other pages unless it’s a request of the editors for me to help. Right now, trying to get through with several topics on my to-do list (some things are so far back, they are articles that I noticed from about two weeks before the meetup in Portland in May 2016 that I haven’t gotten to yet!). If I don’t get to it soon, don’t worry. I’ll watch this space for updates from others.
Hah, well I found that is the case for most users I have talked to. They seem to all have asked other users to do it for them, which is why I think the article could be a success. Thanks!
I think it’s more likely to be called CSS which is compatible with HTML which is used to add the colouring. style and font. It would be nice that there is an article on this topic since I myself have sometimes been looking for something similar.
True, though, didn’t you style your page yourself?
Sort of, I copied from another user. I rarely have enough time to edit on wikiHow now so I might give a few tips for the article. *It might be better to transform the code images into code templates with {{code}} so that people can actually copy it onto their clipboard. *The intro could be changed to CSS since HTML covers a far wider concept (if I’m not mistaken) *And remember to follow the norm of using verbs at the start of each step.
Okay, thanks! Also, HTML is used to make the very basic beginnings of a webpage. CSS is used to style pretty much everything, so technically CSS covers more concepts. Although, I’m still sorta new to HTML/CSS so I might be mistaken.
Actually, you are right on almost all of this. While CSS is still a new formatting option for those who’ve been vested in creating websites with HTML coding, some really cool looking formatting can be done using HTML that can’t be remedied through CSS. HTML was a former very-basic no-nonsense formatting option for those who wanted to create their own webpage. You aren’t mistaken. While bolding and italicising can be done via HTML and CSS, it’s a little harder for underlining text with CSS so more HTML-coders tend to break away from CSS and use HTML.
Although I’ve had knowledge of HTML for many years now (since 2002, knowing HTML4), I just took an HTML course from a third-party website of my nearest branch of a CTI school, which further got me a certificate a desperately needed.
Cool, I actually made a small website with HTML and CSS, and the only thing I really used CSS for was changing the size, font, and position of the text, the only other thing used it for was the background. Which I’m fairly sure HTML can achieve as well. Though I’m still working on a safe login feature, as well as an chat box for me and my friends.
^I’m pretty sure I’m wrong because I’m quite unspecialised in this topic.
Anyhow, I started to implement the codebox template so that readers can actually copy the code. Hope this is helpful.
Its very helpful, thanks. The first time I looked at the code for it, I was like, ‘Holy How!’ It looked like a giant jumble of code, but the more I studied it, the more it showed as genius!
Thanks @Davecrosby
! I’d be lying if I said no! There are a lot of helpful articles there, although I already added most of the information that they have. But, there are a few with some new tricks!
Especially the cursor one which I added to my page.
Bravo, haha. These are really neat! Although, how you managed to change the photos in the HTML article to copy-able text eludes me. I examined the code, but I still don’t quite understand…
What is author collaboration?
Hello, author collaboration is when wikihow authors work together to make an article great, like what were doing now!
This is actually a brilliant idea! I’ve been struggling to figure out how to get the html coding just right on my talk/user page. I’m a “computer-science-noob-teenager” (studied for only a month), so I feel like the collaboration and the article would definitely do justice here.
@ImmenseGoddess
I’ve been coding for almost a yyearrr, I think, though some of it was on and off. I used codecademy for my learning and used their ‘free course’ option, it was and still is an awesome learning website with a great community! Anyhow, I also have struggles with wikihow’s syntax, it has a strange combination of HTML and CSS mixed together! That is why I have been mostly limited to altering already made code, a bit frusterating!
