I was looking through Special:NewPages , and I noticed that when the Copyviocheckbot found a copyright violation on one of them , it moved it to quality review. Here is an image of that pages history page:

And if you check the Copyviocheckbot’s contributions , you can see that it has done it quite a few times recently, so it appears to be a reoccurring bug.

Hi R2! This is expected as part of the NFD autodemote process.

@JayneG Is there a list of templates somewhere that will trigger autodemote? Like on a MediaWiki interface page?

No, this is just a wikiHow thing and very specific to only articles that haven’t ever been promoted - it’s any NFD tag & Copyvio. EpcotMagic mentioned that we don’t have {{speedy}} included, so mulling that one over but inclined to keep it as is for now.

@JayneG I just want to bump this real quick to ask how we feel about excluding copyvio from the autodemote process? Just because most of the time, the bot would hit spam or other commercial cross-posted content that ultimately become NFD’d. Prior to the change, it was relatively easy to put the admin task of processing copyvios on the back burner since these would end up being deleted anyway when it’s tagged as NFD by a booster. I myself sometimes removed the copyvio tag if it was there in addition to the NFD tag since I knew deletion would occur one way or another. But now that these are autodemoted by the bot, they tend to stay in limbo until it gets NFD’d when someone stumbles upon it on the category page (which can often be several days later according to the example linked).

If it’s technically possible, could we consider reverting back to the previous behaviour?

@Zygomatt I was actually thinking about seeing if we could get an update to NFD Guardian to add copyvios into the tool - which I think would solve this issue (and while we’re at it see if we can also include nfd|dup in all, and potentially get that dropdown menu fixed!)

What do you think?

I’m back to bump this thread with good news! We’ve had an update to NFD Guardian:

  1. copyvios will be added to the tool
  2. nfd|dup will come up under “all”
  3. dropdown menu should be working better
