After a short conversation on wikiTwitter about some crazy Duolingo translations, I decided to create this thread.
As many people who use Duolingo will say, the translations and practice problems used in the lessons are far from what any normal person would use in day-to-day conversation. And, some people may have taken note of the fact that per fluency standards, Duolingo will not allow you to understand regularly-paced dialogue from natives, nor will it allow you to speak complex dialogue yourself. Basically it’s only for reading/understanding basic parts of the language.
Yeesh, sorry for going off on a tangent there. Basically if you use Duolingo, or another language-learning app such as Rosetta Stone or Babbel, post some insane translations here. Take a screenshot or just type it. Try to avoid anything NSFW though.

I have this gem from 2015, when Duolingo was apparently a good deal less regulated:

Basically every Duolingo first lesson to ever exist tries to reinforce the idea in your head that you are a certain animal. It’s honestly hilarious.

「すみません、私はリンゴです。」
This was the most ridiculous sentence I encountered on Duolingo. “Excuse me, I am an apple.” I encountered this I believe in July. I do not have any screenshots sorry. And I probably wrote this wrong as well as I am trying to remember.

“You are a croissant” walked so “Excuse me, I am an apple” could run.
Also, I checked, and what you wrote was correct I believe.

did somebody ever actually learned a language using an app here? and if so, can you recommend an app to us? the ones I have used so far were not good
Duolingo is what we’re talking about- it’s a pretty good one if you wanna learn a language, but it may have some errors. That’s what we’re talking about here. If you want to learn particular sentences or just basics of a language, you can try writing the english meaning on one side and write thee language’s meaning on other side with the help of google translate. (If you don’t understand, you may look below)
