My friend is a member of Answers.com
and told me about how they have an Answer-a-thon coming up. Apparently, from March the 5th to March the 8th, they have a competition where people can win cash prizes up to $2000 for their efforts. Personally, I do not agree with the cash prize section but perhaps we could have our own edit-a-thon. Maybe running from the 10th of March say to the 15th of March, this community could get a lot of edits done. We could sign up for certain times we would take part in the edit-a-thon on a Doodle survey like we did for the Origami-a-thon. Personally, I think this would be a great breakthrough for wikiHow and I would be totally up for this. Any takers? Hannah x:)

Great idea! Maybe there could be a Barnstar or some other award as a prize?

I agree with @Keelan-Daye
It would probably make people feel rushed and worry about quantity
I disagree

Well, we’re trying to incorporate the aspects of both.

@WikihowSaver
is right. Many people would just skim through articles quickly.
Right? I do feel like that sometimes but now I just stop worrying and edit when I can. Sorry, Hannah
We’re trying to make people feel rushed?

Oops. I meant quality and quantity. I should’ve checked that. My bad.
Oh okay, lol …but still I don’t think this a good idea. My opinion though.

Yeah, I agree now. You could easily rush through the articles and get a Barnstar when you weren’t even trying.
Barnstars aren’t to be awarded lightly. They are given to users who clearly spend incredible amounts of time, dedication and hard work into their edits. If you’d be able to get a barnstar for doing an edit marathon, that’d defeat the whole purpose of getting a barnstar. If you want to this for yourself or with some other people, you’re completely free to do so.
Not everyone has to include themselves @WikihowSaver
I’m a member of that website and love their Answerthons (I’ve even won cash prizes from it), but I don’t think it would be as good of an idea here. Other than being collaborative wikis, Answers.com
and wikiHow are nothing alike. Edits would likely be difficult to judge, and what would we judge them on, anyway? While Answers.com
’s contests seem like they’re simple enough to judge (it’s based on the length and quality of the answers given), I can’t say the same about judging edits here.
I see you’ve posted this on several forums. Why don’t you start your own new discussion with the question rather than keep posting this on others. I can do this for you or help you do this if you’re unsure. What is your question?
Who are you talking to @TammySin
? Please clarify. Thanks!
I do see where you are coming from but I stick with my opinion.
