It’s that time again. Copying from the Election 2020 thread the rules:
I want to start off with saying that I am not opening this because of politics, but rather because election day is 2024-11-05T05:00:00Z
.
Of course, we will try not to be political, but it will end up being a political discussion anyway.
The only rules for this thread:
- It is okay to agree/disagree on certain policies/political views, but it is unacceptable to attack someone for being Democrat/Republican or because one’s view is more liberal/conservative.
- Try to keep this thread relevant to the 2024 election.
Also, if this discussion gets derailed or creates divides in our wonderful community any admin is free to delete and/or close this thread.
Oh, and keep your vote confidential. We do not need to know whether you voted Trump or Harris or someone else. Although we encourage all of you to vote.

THANK YOU, I really needed this, my parents are Republicans and I’m a Democrat but I can’t say that to them because I’m scared of just how angry my dad would probably get
I could go into more detail but this post would end up being unnecesarily long… let’s just say that back in 2020, when Tom Steyer was running in the primaries, I saw his ads a lot on YouTube and I liked that he talked about climate change. I tried to mention this to my dad and he was like “yeah, the climate’s changing all the time, does this guy want it to be winter permanently?”
DUDE… THAT’S NOT HOW CLIMATE CHANGE WORKS!! I think that was the pivotal moment for me- I realized that Dad’s views did NOT align with mine at all, and that feeling has only gotten more certain with time. Don’t even get me started on how he claims “trans people don’t exist, god only made 2 genders…”
okay this post ended up being MUCH longer than I intended lol

Lol yeah. I’m a democrat too, and for many reasons, but I don’t want this chat to turn into a political debate.

A reminder to vote early and to vote by mail if you cannot show up to election day!
I did it and it only took about 30 minutes. Would have taken shorter if there was not traffic going to the booth.

I can’t vote yet… I’ll haveta turn 18 to do voting, but just… not yet. But I am not revealing my age tho
so my age will forever remain unknown on the internet
(Sorry, but I can’t help with that, its the rules of the internet!)

Yeah, we’re all teenagers so we can’t vote yet. Although I really hope Trump doesn’t win, since he does not seem like a trustworthy person. Idk about Kamala Harris’s policies, so I can’t make a clear judgment on her yet.
I don’t know much about Harris either, but at least she doesn’t have dementia like Sleepy Joe and she’s not a convicted felon like Trump… I am sooooooooooooo glad Biden dropped outta the race, before he dropped out I was having MAJOR trouble deciding who I wanted to win (neither of those men are great candidates)

Age is definitely a concern with this election.
The reason is that older politicians are more likely to die in office, and thus people need to think about the vice president as a suitable replacement for the president.

Polls close today.
I would not stress too much about national politics. Local and state politics are a lot more important as they directly affect you. We should assume we don’t get the outcome we desire at a national level. But let’s not get pessimistic. Let’s just breathe.
It’s either Kamala or Trump, I personally think that Kamala has a chance of winning the election. They say if Trump loses, it’s all over. (Now I am not attacking views here, just stating facts)
Unreal… I found this: https://abc7ny.com/live-updates/trump-harris-2024-election-updates/15454438/
I am definitely watching the debate tonight

Ok, here are the results so far!
Looks like California boosted a ton of Harris’s votes.
Updating
As of 10 PM, looks like Trump is still in the lead. Alaska and Hawaii’s votes are in now.

I am not too worried.
Second term presidents are bound much more weakly to their party than first term presidents, and they can do stuff that is unpopular as they are certain to retire from politics soon.
The reason we got this though is not because we are lazy but because of how first past the post voting works. The last time a Republican won the popular vote was George H. W. Bush in 1988.
