Just wanted to keep you guys in the loop that we know everyone is seeing a lot of slowness and gnomes at the moment - the engineers are all dug in trying to fix the issue! If we get more news, we’ll let you know. Hopefully they’ll get us back up and running soon - thanks for hanging in there in the meantime
For the moment, we’re back up and running now, it appears to be. We’ll just see how long it lasts.
Awesome. Things are working fine for me!

Yep, hopefully we’ll be more stable again now - if there are any more developments or changes, I’ll let you guys know! Thanks for the patience
Sorry about the outage! I wish these things would never happen!
I tried to upload some screenshots to an article, and it’s having a bit of a problem when creating the thumbnail after publishing. It had the same preview error, when I uploaded the pics. Here’s the tip I’m seeing when the thumbnail appears: “Error creating thumbnail: An unknown error occurred.” and no pic displays. The pic’s wikitext is fine, but what’s behind the scenes, something going on, and I don’t know what it is. Here’s the edit. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Edit-Tips-With-the-Yelp-for-iPhone-App&diff=prev&oldid=13100130
Photos that were previously uploaded, display just fine.

Yeah. I am going to have to go to an article I wrote during the outage and fill in the images that won’t display right now.

I was just about to upload some screenshots too just now. I am also getting this problem, and the screenshot just appeared as a blank picture with “Error creating thumbnail:An unknown error occurred.”

Yeah, it’s a temporary byproduct of the outage yesterday. It will be fixed hopefully soon, but the engineers are still focused on ensuring stability first so we don’t get more gnomes - then the image issues will be worked out next. Thanks for understanding! I know it’s a bummer not to see the great images in the meantime
Thank you for the update @Anna
. The last couple of outages showed the gnomes and displayed a message saying that information would be shown/updated on Twitter, but it was not. I, personally, would like to see the information on Twitter, if possible, when I cannot access the site. If I knew the nature of the problem and an anticipated “up” time, it would help me to plan my activities. Perhaps a note about the timing of the next Twitter update— maybe on the hour, every hour— whatever is workable.

@Serendipitee
- yep, I know we don’t really use Twitter for that like the gnomes sing about; silly gnomes! I’ll look into whether that’s something we can do in future - but the forums tend to be up and running regardless, so this is usually where we update, since we can go into more detail here. It also gives the option for you guys to ask questions if you need to, and we can respond more easily and thoroughly than on Twitter. This is a good first stop if you’re not sure what’s going on
@Anna
Update: Seems this problem here has been fixed. I can see all images now.

Hey Boots and pants! If you would like to continue to discuss this issue feel free to here! But in the future, if you just want to chat try our wiki Twitter forum:) Thanks! http://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/1987/your-personal-twitter-thread-wikitwitter/p406
Perhaps the gnommy guys could change their song, @Anna
.

Haha, I was thinking about that, the other day actually. I found a DeviantArt journal saying that the song was ‘stolen’ from another site and someone went nuts about how ‘wikiHow had no right to take it’. It was all written with CAPS lock on if I remember correctly, so I didn’t really think that much of it.

Haha, @Confusionist
