Hi everyone! I know we have temporary leaderboards for Rising Stars, articles written etc etc, but I can’t seem to find one for most Featured Articles written? As in all time? I know they have one over on Wikipedia etc, so was just wondering if there was one floating around here that I can’t find? If not, could we create one? I know I’d certainly be motivated to write better articles and more of them if I knew there was a leaderboard! : ) Regards, Spawn Man.

Why does everything have to be a competition?

But you do realize that this would void/omit out a lot of new editors for some time. You need to realize that some of the older editors, such as Teresa, Flickety, Sondra C, Lewis (lc2), and others have a lotof FA’s in their pocket already - so they’d be on the top for a long time.

Wikipedia’s standards are a lot stricter & precise compared to wikiHows - in just about anything:wink:

Is a “leaderboard” necessary for every single job to motivate editors? Is it the thrill like Christmas morning when a person sees their name on a top list, and even moreso to see how long they can stay on it?

I agree with everything @Maluniu 110%. Also, Rising Stars usually just one editor starts/works on before the get a RS… But for the FA’s LOTS of people work on them. Look at my FA http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Long-Hair-off-a-Shower-Drain-(Without-Using-Your-Fingers) … I mean, it didn’t even get a RS, but once like 4 other editors did some major edits, it gets featured. So what would those other FA helpers get from this?

I think that if a user chooses to display how many FA’s they’ve had on their user page, it’s their choice. Making it public and obvious would, like Maluniu said, just put four or five editors permanentley at the top of the list. It’s great to recognize these talented authors, but we don’t need a leaderboard to do it.

Agree 112%. My featured article, http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Breakfast-in-a-Biscuit , had a lot of work done to it before it was a F.A. Yet, I got most of the credit. You know what i’m saying?

I agree with Maluniu 100% what she said I really agree with it.

I could see how it might be cool for the last month…not ‘ever’…however, I wouldn’t mind a UIB(s) for telling me how many RSs and FAs I have.

I’m pretty sure there are UIBs for that.

While it can be exciting and cool to see your name at the top of the leaderboard, I think that that might take away from the friendly, easygoing nature of the site. Competition can be great motivation, or it can be a way for certain users to consider themselves more valuable or better than users with less FAs. Honestly, there are so many wikiHow jobs that leaderboards don’t cover, such as welcoming new users, treating others editors with kindness, being helpful, etc. I don’t think we need an all-time leaderboard because, as Maluniu said, it’d be dominated by a select few.

Sure okay, was just an idea. : ) As it is though, there ARE lists for Rising Stars, I just thought it’d be a good idea to add one for FAs since there currently is nothing rewarding them.

I agree with Caidoz. Why does this need to be a competition?

If your article was featured that’s a sign of recognition of a job well done, to all editors who worked on the article. That in itself is some kind of “reward” for your hard work. Give yourself a pat on the back, take a few moments to yourself to bask in that golden glow of glory and treat yourself to a cookie, but then… get over yourself and move on. The number of FAs you have doesn’t matter. It’s brilliant if you’ve written a few hundred, but it’s also brilliant if you haven’t written any, but have instead managed to write a number of useful articles on topics we didn’t already have, but which may have been overlooked for featuring. Just because an article hasn’t been featured, doesn’t mean it isn’t good. Life isn’t a competition. Sit back, relax, and live a little.

How about the 'ol “pat yourself on the back for creating an article” reward?

“Editcountitis” is the word that comes to mind here. I’m with Caidoz (and others) on this one. Why make it a competition? It’s the colaboration that counts.

That’s not a bad idea:slight_smile:I don’t think Spawn Man was trying to be competitive about it. I know a lot of people on here who take pride in their numbers without coming off as “my numbers are better than yours”. Sometimes it’s nice to take pride in how much you’ve accomplished, and it doesn’t have to be relative to how much someone else has accomplished. That being said, historically some people are very competitive about FAs. And as has been pointed out, FAs often end up being a very collaborative effort. So personal recognition for number of FAs might be misleading.

@KatyBliss Can you dig them up? I haven’t seen them.

@Maluniu Thanks! @ttrimm ^^there they are:slight_smile:

Both of those, you need to KNOW how many you have. It doesn’t look for them for you. I have no idea!

There is http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Templates/User-Statistics#NAB_Count_.23 but I have no idea if you can tweak that into a UIB. Looks like the RS is 100% manual whatever way you go.
