We have a LGBT category, but some of the articles (I’d estimate around 15% of them) are directed not to LGBT people but to their friends, family, and others who know them. I think a category for those articles (either within the existing LGBT Category: http://www.wikihow.com/Category:LGBT or within the Relationships category (which is where the LGBT category is located.) http://www.wikihow.com/Category:Relationships Here is a list of the articles I think would go there. (I don’t know what happens after you create the category [whether or not the category creator would move them] but there’s so many of them that I’d be happy to do that) http://www.wikihow.com/Respect-a-Transgender-Person http://www.wikihow.com/Discuss-Options-when-a-Friend-Comes-Out http://www.wikihow.com/Accept-a-Close-Friend’s-Sexual-Orientation http://www.wikihow.com/Accept-Your-Gay-Child http://www.wikihow.com/Accept-Someone-Close-to-You-Admitting-They’re-Gay http://www.wikihow.com/Be-a-Good-Friend-to-Someone-with-Gender-Dysphoria http://www.wikihow.com/Be-a-Heterosexual-Ally-of-the-LGBT-Community http://www.wikihow.com/Be-Sensitive-to-Pronouns-and-Gender-Issues-when-Talking-to-a-Transgendered-Person http://www.wikihow.com/Deal-With-Finding-out-Somebody-You-Love-Is-Gay http://www.wikihow.com/Deal-With-Internalized-Homophobia http://www.wikihow.com/Deal-With-Having-a-Gay-Parent http://www.wikihow.com/Encourage-Someone-to-Reconsider-Expressing-Their-Sexual-Orientation http://www.wikihow.com/Find-Out-if-a-Family-Member-is-Gay http://www.wikihow.com/Find-Your-Gay-Best-Friend http://www.wikihow.com/Get-a-Gay-Male-Friend-(for-Girls) http://www.wikihow.com/Get-on-with-Gay-Men http://www.wikihow.com/Help-a-Friend-Know-It’s-Okay-to-Be-Themselves http://www.wikihow.com/Help-Your-Bi-Friend-Come-Out http://www.wikihow.com/Know-if-Your-Date-is-Transgender http://www.wikihow.com/Love-Your-Gay-Son http://www.wikihow.com/Quit-Being-Homophobic http://www.wikihow.com/React-when-Your-Child-Comes-Out-As-Nonbinary http://www.wikihow.com/Relate-to-a-Cross-Dressing-Spouse http://www.wikihow.com/Reduce-Homophobic-Behavior http://www.wikihow.com/Respond-when-a-Homosexual-Friend-Comes-out-of-the-Closet http://www.wikihow.com/Show-Support-to-a-Transgender-Family-Member http://www.wikihow.com/Support-a-Lesbian-Who-Wants-to-Become-Straight http://www.wikihow.com/Stop-Using-the-Word-“Gay”-Inappropriately http://www.wikihow.com/Talk-to-the-Resistant-Parent-of-a-Gay-Child http://www.wikihow.com/Tell-a-Child-About-a-Same-Sex-Relationship# http://www.wikihow.com/Tell-Your-Lesbian-Friend-That-You-Are-Straight-and-Not-Interested-in-Her http://www.wikihow.com/Tell-Your-Girlfriend-You-Are-Not-a-Lesbian http://www.wikihow.com/Understand-a-Homosexual’s-Feelings http://www.wikihow.com/Understand-Asexual-People http://www.wikihow.com/Understand-Teenage-Homosexuality http://www.wikihow.com/Understand-Teen-Sexuality http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Your-‘Suspected’-Gay-Friend-to-Confide-in-You http://www.wikihow.com/Support-Homosexual-Family-and-Friends http://www.wikihow.com/Date-a-Transvestite http://www.wikihow.com/Date-a-Hermaphrodite http://www.wikihow.com/Explain-Cross-Dressing-to-a-Child http://www.wikihow.com/Identify-Homosexual-Tendencies-in-Family-Members http://www.wikihow.com/Support-a-Transgender-Friend

I support this.

@NightvaleScientist Some of these seems like a mixed bag with LGBT Dating (which is the more logical place rather than family/friends). What about sub-categories for “LGBT and Family”, “LGBT and Friends”, and “Supporting LGBT”?

I think all of those articles fit within the LGBT category. I don’t see a need for a new- or sub-category.

I think that the articles for family and friends have too much overlap to merit desperate categories, but I agree about a subcategory (maybe of the new friends and family one?) for dating.

I support this.

Good idea, I support

But what about articles like: http://www.wikihow.com/Understand-a-Homosexual’s-Feelings http://www.wikihow.com/Respect-a-Transgender-Person http://www.wikihow.com/Be-Sensitive-to-Pronouns-and-Gender-Issues-when-Talking-to-a-Transgendered-Person http://www.wikihow.com/Deal-With-Finding-out-Somebody-You-Love-Is-Gay http://www.wikihow.com/Deal-With-Internalized-Homophobia http://www.wikihow.com/Support-Homosexual-Family-and-Friends (which is an incomplete list) Do they go in family or friends? I understand saying Friends and Family of LGBT+ People is a little wordy but I think it’s the best option we’ve come up with so far.

@NightvaleScientist Categories can also discuss the subject in an overall sense. So even if it is a LGBT category, it not only welcomes articles for LGBT people, but also about LGBT, thus the main category page of LGBT is suitable if articles don’t match potential or existing sub-categories (which are gearing specifics).

@Maluniu I agree with everything you just said. I just feel like we need at least one new subcategory. Can articles be placed in multiple categories? If articles could be placed in both LGBT and Friends and LGBT and Family I would be all in favor of those two categories being added. (Although perhaps they should read “Friends of LGBT People” and “Family of LGBT People” because the other two seem kind of like for advice to LGBT people on dealing with friends/family)

Wonderful suggestion! I like the idea of keeping it to “Friends and Family,” because I feel like there would be a large amount of overlap between a “Friends” and “Family” category. That way, the articles would be covered in one category, and there would still be space for one more category (as fitting for individual articles).

@MissLunaRose I agree! That would be perfect!
