(i had no clue what category to put this in)
moving forward
i think in many articles there are specific pronouns used when it makes no sense for there to be specific pronouns (example: using he/him exclusively such as in this article How to Help Someone Who Has Swallowed Gasoline: 13 Steps )
does anyone agree that we should be using they/them, especially when the person in question’s gender has nothing to do with the topic of the article?

Hello, gender neutral pronouns should already be used on articles that could apply to any gender, such as the one that you linked to. I think that the articles that have gender specific pronouns on them were either mistakes, or they are old. If you see an article like this, then fell free to change all of the pronouns to gender neutral pronouns, and also, you can change words like “police man” and “mail man” to “police officer” and “mail carrier” as well. We want wikiHow to be inclusive for everyone.

I have gone ahead and fixed the article that you linked to, so it does not need to be fixed anymore. But I’m sure that there are other articles that have this issue, so feel free to fix them whenever you find one.
