Many boosters/admins can attest to the fact that our Proposed Redirects backlog has grown very large over the years, and the page used to process it has been clunky and slow for a long time. We’ve been surviving with it, but I think we all have had it in mind that a better system would be awesome at some stage. So our developers (in particular, the shout-out goes out to Bebeth and Alissa for this one!) got a little crazy and tried to envision a whole new way to process potential duplicate titles… Hold onto your hats, 'cause I’m pretty stoked about this one…!
The main goal with this new tool right now is to process the backlog of proposed redirects. However, in future, it could potentially also be used to process other kinds of duplicate titles - Suggested Topics and potential Merge candidates and the like. Hopefully, it’ll be a whole lot more efficient than our old system… and more fun, too!

It’s more of a vote-based, flow style tool than the old page, which should make the backlog much easier to get through. It can also be used by non-boosters and non-admins - but in a consensus/vote style system, where final approval is still processed by someone very familiar with our policies (an admin or booster).
As for the nitty gritty of how it works:
-
A single admin or booster vote is the same as approving or rejecting on Special:ProposedRedirects (the suggestion either gets rejected right away, or if it’s accepted, a redirect is made).
-
For everyone else, a winning vote of multiple Nos (technically, two more No votes than Yes votes) rejects the proposed dup/redirect. However, a Yes consensus (technically, when there are at least 2 more Yes votes than No votes) earns the title a place here: wikihow.com/Special:ProposedRedirects?tool=1
- From there, anyone who normally does proposed redirects (boosters/admins) can approve or reject it.
If you want to try it out, please dive in! Just remember that Merge Policy-based rule of thumb: Do these two article titles mean exactly the same thing? - and then get votin’

As with any newly launched tool, things could be buggy… let us know what you think and what you see out there, and we’ll do our best to get it sorted out!
This tool is awesome! The response time is super fast now.
Now, let’s not let a backlog build up in https://www.wikihow.com/Special:ProposedRedirects?tool=1
and as Anna told me: “A single admin or booster vote is the same as approving or rejecting on Special:ProposedRedirects.”
I invite anyone who’s not familliar with the Merge Policy to read it here

Update Oct. 27, 2017: Fixed broken link.
Jees - We’re a bit hehind
The tool does seem to be running faster than it was when it was in beta, so that’s a plus
Thank you so, so much Bebeth and the awesome crew we got. And a great Thank you goes out to @Anna
for announcing it. I thought I was losing my mind when I saw the tool but didn’t see the forums post about it.
@ItsPugle
- Well, we’re 1000 down already within the day of the tool being released…
I tried it out and it is wonderful! Proposed Redirects was too slow, but this one is a lot faster and more powerful - and makes my life easier…!! I will keep doing this to pass the time! I also am optimistic that in the near future, this will really help prevent the creation of duplicates (like you said with the Suggested Topics).
Woohoo new tools! Thanks team! I’ll give it a try sometime soon.

I’m so glad you all like it! I got excited enough about this one that I was worried I might just be a huge wikiNerd… but if that’s the case, at least I’m in good company

/ looks around / boosters everywhere…no one else interested?
It seems to be a cool tool so far, and it’s quick! So out of curiosity, how many votes are needed for each article to be moved (or whatever happens!)?
I tried the tool out. It is awesome! I hope we get more useful tools like that in future.

Just a quickie. I started (and just got this article promoted live) on the tool’s workings. I just haven’t had a chance to screenshot it yet. There’s quite a backlog of mine with other things before I get around to screenshotting it. https://www.wikihow.com/Use-the-Find-Duplicate-Titles-Tool-on-wikiHow
Tool now has < 40k titles in it’s queue.
Two questions: 1) Can you report 2 articles as being the same? 2) What happens if it has been voted as a duplicate? Sorry if those were answered already and I missed them.
