Lots of people want to become boosters, without knowing what it really is. One thing that can really prepare you for boosting is to fix tagged articles; most especially, copyedit and format tagged ones. http://www.wikihow.com/Category:Format http://www.wikihow.com/Category:Copyedit

Thanks Teresa!!! I’m already preparing myself, and I can’t count the number of articles I’ve copyedited and formatted! This is really helping me gain some editing experience, along with improving the new pages here: http://www.wikihow.com/Special:Newpages

Good idea!! Thanks for the addition!

http://www.wikihow.com/Special:EditFinder/Topic http://www.wikihow.com/Special:EditFinder/Stub http://www.wikihow.com/Special:EditFinder/Format Article greenhouse can help your prepare for the NAB test, too.

Teresa, I just want to say, that your advice has helped me a LOT in my 2 months of editing wikiHow. I remember back when I was new and I didn’t know how to do any of these things, but I’ve learned how to do them. And you have done well on boosting new articles yourself, and starting this thread was a wonderful idea. Thanks for all you do to improve wikiHow. I like you and your edits a lot.

Thank you! I’ll definitely try that out, too!!

Thanks for posting them,Teresa.

Know the three major policies. Title, Merge and Deletion…

And quality before quantity… right BR.

To all the aspiring boosters, I just want to remind you guys that boosting is a task that requires loads of dedication. IMO, I honestly think NAB is the hardest tool on the dashboard. Please don’t become a booster just so you get the profile badge and title. You’re not technically required to boost per se (since we’re all volunteers and we use wikiHow at our own pace), but becoming a booster just for its bragging rights defeats the purpose.

That’s why I’m practicing now, to prepare for all the extra mile work that boosting takes. I try something that’s likeboosting ( http://www.wikihow.com/Special:Newpages ), and I try to thoroughly proofread each article for any type of errors.

Don’t take the test at the minimum requirements - nor REtake the test at the minimum 2 week mark ---- only after you have met the requirements and are actually ready. Just have fun, edit, and learn about the site in a natural way ------ it will come to you.

@Maluniu Thanks for the advice. I am already having fun!!! The editing is nice, and I get to coach editors after editing each article! I’ll try to make sure I’m well prepared, before taking the first part of the NAB test.

It’s always good to look at the edits that get posted when a new booster gets announced. Those are the kinds of edits you want to do to pass the test and be a great booster:slight_smile:

maybe I should also take breaks when I get bored with editing. I can do another activity on the site, such as RC patrolling, writing a new article, and spell checking articles.
