I was reviewing @WF
’s image uploads and realized that the vast majority of the screenshots they have uploaded were licensed as Creative Commons, even though most screenshots are not available as a free license. Can someone (maybe an admin) look at this page
and review the screenshots to check their license is correct? They have uploaded more than 2000 screenshots which would be painstakingly long to review all of them. I did a kind-of random sample of 10 images and they all were screenshots with a claim that they were licensed under the CC BY-SA license, even though they are only available under a non-free license. Yikes. There are some images in the list that do have a correct license, but it is difficult to sort through thousands of images.
@WF
just responded to me that they will take a look at the images, but given that there are 2000+ images that this user uploaded, and some of them do not have the correct licensing, I am starting this forum thread so we can get this done faster. I started a Google Sheet with a list of images that @WF
uploaded. You can check the box when you have reviewed the image and corrected the license (unless if the image really is CC licensed, in which case you can just check without doing anything). @JayneG
I can share the sheet with you if needed. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cZoTPbRkGYV61oayS-3Kw5oDlTPewsB0fn55bP381-U/edit?usp=sharing
(On a side note for @WF
, this is just a cleanup task I started for legal reasons; it does not imply that you did anything wrong.)

Aasim, this is a pretty low priority task and probably not something that warrants the attention of a thread in the Village Pump. If you want to work with WF (or want to review the images solo), you’re welcome to do so. Feel free to contact @JayneG
or me directly if you’d like to discuss possible ways we could use a script or other similar method to get the licensing corrected once there’s a list established of all the screenshots. There’s no sense in spending valuable community efforts on a menial task like this when it could be accomplished much easier other ways.
Since this is so low priority, it would probably be a rainy day project when there’s time to run a script to make the licensing changes.
