I know wikihow isn’t wikipedia, but I know it’s based on the mediawiki source. I’m not exactly sure on the branching history but wanted you to be aware that there are new parameters for showing images: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Extended_image_syntax When clicking an image, it typically goes to the image’s description page, which is useful, but clumsy if you want to use an image as a link instead. I know you can use raw HTML, but it’s worth noting that there are some features missing. A new parameter is available to allow the image to be linked to a specific page: [[Image:some_image.png|link=some article]] In this case, the image will be linked to some article. Details can be found on the wikipedia entry I posted above, along with other new parameters that are currently not implimented on wH.

Thanks MIke. Do you know what version on Mediawiki this was introduced on? We are still on Mediawiki 1.12 (I think). If this feature is in the code pre 1.12 we might have this ability. We will upgrade at a future point, but I don’t know when.

I’m not sure in what version it was introduced. I tried using the parameter on wikihow and it didn’t work, which lead me to write the bug report. http://www.wikihow.com/User:Sohmc If you look at my profile, you can see why I want to use it. Clicking the images on my toolbar takes you to the image description page, not the page I’d like. EDIT: It looks like the feature was added in 1.14 :

A subsequent bug fix to this feature was released in 1.16 :

Mike, you can also use image maps to turn an image into a link. We do this on our tour and in some other places. The code is far more complicated, and probably not a good fit for regular wikiHow pages. http://www.wikihow.com/Use-the-MediaWiki-ImageMap-Extension

imagemap?! That’s so 1990!:stuck_out_tongue:I’ll give it a try.
