Hi everyone!

I had an idea for a new talk page template that I think would be useful, here’s what it would look like in wikitext:

Hi there! Welcome to wikiHow!
I just wanted to let you know that the accounts Seymour Edits and wikiHow Projects are used by wikiHow Staff, so we want to make sure their edits get approved, not reverted:)
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me, I’d love to help you out!

I think this would be great for new users who just need a gentle reminder about these accounts, as I know when I first started using wikiHow, I wasn’t aware these were staff accounts.

If anyone has any feedback or tips about whether this is a good idea or not, I’d love to hear them! We would also need a title…

Thanks:)

We did update the newpatroller templates to mention that Seymour Edits and wikiHow Projects edits should generally be marked as patrolled!

Hmm, we do have the newpatroller templates mentioning this, so not sure if this would be necessary.

My only concern with the newpatroller templates is that they can be rather textwall-y, and thus people may well skim over them. As such, I can see a value in having a more concise template specifically referring to staff accounts to be used where the reversion of staff edits is the primary concern about a patroller’s activity

This was my thought as well, the message kind of gets lost in the massive info dump of the new patroller one, not that it isn’t useful!

Hi Ruppy,

I think this is a nice template idea. However, there could be some more info that could be added in case someone finds a typo in the edit. Those things are welcomed by the staff to be spotted and quickly edited while patrolling.
And the portion where questions are welcomed can be enhanced by adding a link to Jayne’s or other admins talkpage just in case the patroller doesn’t have ample info to share with new patrollers.

Wow! Thanks so much for your feedback:)

Good point about the typo thing, as well as the other bit. Do you think it should just be a link to a list of active admins? I have a link for that but it won’t let me post it:(
It’s on my sandbox at User:Ruppy28/sandboxIt’s just got a list of users with admin rights, whether they’re staff or volunteer.
I’d use this over the admin quick list, as new users may lose interest in wikiHow if they’re not responded to within a few days, and some admins on the quick list aren’t that active.

Here’s my suggestion for the new template, let me know what you think!
The bit that says wikihow admin at the bottom would be a link, but it wouldn’t let me post links here:man_shrugging:

Hi there! Welcome to wikiHow!

I just wanted to let you know that the accounts Seymour Edits and wikiHow Projects are used by wikiHow Staff, so we want to make sure their edits get approved after a quick read for any typos or language mistakes, in which case feel free to make a quick edit before moving on, but please don’t revert these edits:)

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me, our community manager Jayne, or a wikiHow admin for more info.

Happy wikiHowing!

I think this sounds good.

Nice tweaks, Ruppy. Yes, a link to the list of active admins, or the help team page and Jayne would be best for them to seek help. Your suggestion is helpful. Some tweaks might be made by Jayne or others in the template message. It sounds helpful to me. Sometimes a list of Seymour edits are reverted by patrollers unknowingly. So this might help.

Thanks for your feedback guys! I think we have consensus?

Should the title just be something like Staff Edits? Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you, Rupert. That tag sounds good to me.

Thanks so much everyone!

I’ve made the template Staff Edits and placed it on the Coaching Templates page as well so people can find it, so feel free to start using it!
