I was thinking we need a new template sort of related to the chat template. Let’s say that a user says something like “Hey! My computer is broken! Can you tell me how to fix it?” what would you do? You wouldn’t put a chat template on the Page, because it doesn’t technically count as chatting, and you could type something out, but it would be way more efficient to just put on a template code. Thoughts, anyone?

just point them to a link that will show them what they want. we don’t need a template for everything

Chat templates shouldn’t be liberally applied. It is no big deal if someone posts one message not related to wikiHow, so don’t intervene at all if they aren’t talking to you.

But I see it often. Maybe we could take a vote! Whoever comments below can say Yes Template or No Template. Sound good?

You’re gonna get a majority of no template:wink:People often come to us editors expecting us to know everything because we write the how-tos. And they don’t really know how to navigate around the site so it’s easy to just point them to an article.

What do you see often?

People leaving random messages that have NOTHING to do with wikiHow. Take Tarastrong01 and Twinb12 for example. They argue on their talk pages when they could just do it in their house!

Excessive commenting on talk pages that doesn’t further wikiHow’s mission is chatting - the template would apply there. Otherwise one could always NOT put the template there.

Also, please do not specifically name users who are disrupting/not helping wikiHow, as it won’t fix the problem and we don’t want to start bad talking anyone here. =)

Okay! Sorry!
