I noticed in the wikiHow Functions , we have many button templates, and I was wondering if we could have another. It would be much easier if there was a {{3DSbutton}} template. Before I have used {{Xboxbutton}} template, but it is more confusing, as a 3DS is not an Xbox and some of the buttons are different, for example, the A, B, X and Y buttons are not coloured (3DSes come in different colours, I stuck with black in the draft), and the right and left buttons are different. I copied the code of the Template:Xboxbutton and Template:Xboxbutton/core page and tweaked it around a bit in my userspace, but I am by no means an expert template designer. You can see what I have done in these three pages:

  • User:RubyRoseRain/3DSbutton
  • User:RubyRoseRain/3DSbutton/core
  • User:RubyRoseRain/TempTest
If this template did come into existence, we would have to remove the “User:RubyRoseRain” bit, that was just so I could check the template worked. We would also have to remove the first colon in the category, I didn’t want to categorise the page. Also, a 3DS has a D-pad which could also be a parameter, but I don’t know how to do that. It would be useful if someone did add it though, it is plus shaped, you can search it. There’s also a circle pad on a 3DS but that’s not technically a button. There is a power button too, and a “start” and “select” button, but the latter two are just a small circle with the words next to them. Tell me what you think, if there is any issues with the template, or if you are able to add a D-pad parameter to the template. I would personally find such a template quite helpful in editing 3DS-related articles, but I would like a consensus first.

I definitely support this. In fact, would something like this work for PlayStation? It was really weird to just type things like Xand trianglewhile making a PS2 article when they’re supposed to be buttons. But that aside, this could come in handy, and I definitely agree.

I support this!!!

We already have one for PlayStation! It’s called {{ Psbutton }}. Here’s the core page.

I had no idea.Thank you for making my life so much more convenient; I’ll have to go edit my article and add these in now!

Strong support.  This template may help readers who have no idea on what each button does on a 3DS.  I have never owned a 3DS, and while I have seen some of the buttons, I have not seen all of them, so if I am told “Press the start key”, I may struggle to find it if I was not familiar with the layout of the 3DS.

I support the creation of this template! I’m too lazing to type up my reasons though.:stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll assume there is a consensus. If you have any issues with this, hit me a message on this forum thread, or my talk page. Here is the core page and here is the template page . I would still find it useful if we had a parameter for a D-pad, so if anyone is able to add that, it would be much appreciated.
