Hello, I thought of this earlier today and thought this may just be a good idea for a new tool on the Community Dashboard. So basically, all new users will have their usernames patrolled, similar to RC Patrol except with no quick edit. You will either choose to mark the username as patrolled, or vote against it. However, it will be similar to QG, where users will have to vote and the majority vote is the decision. If the votes are against the username, a warning message will be sent to the user. Hope this idea is a good one.

This does sound good… but I think you’ll need someone like wikiawang or HappyWiki’s vote on yes for this idea… Mmm…
Usually admins have the final say in this.
I think this is a good idea. Also, there should be an option to select why the username is bad, like the 3 digit codes, such as {{username|ani}}.

Is this idea filling a gap you feel exists somewhere? Are you finding the current method of Admins dealing with username violations is not working?
No, I don’t think there really is a gap. I just thought, like QG being separate from RC Patrol, that it would be somewhat easier.
The majority of people who sign up don’t actually contribute - check Special:RecentChanges for an idea of how often people sign up and be slightly overwhelmed at just how much voting that would be

- We actually do have three-letter codes on the username template - they’re a bit hidden, but they’re on the template page here

@Galactic-Radiance
Maybe we should patrol only the names of users with contributions?
Like WW but patrolling usernames instead.
I don’t really see the point of this. If there is a bad username, it’ll probably be found by someone in RCP or WelcomeWagon. This also wastes a lot of engineering power, and I don’t find it Of much use.
I don’t really approve of this, but I see how it could be useful. If your idea does get approved, though, it would only be usable by admins or boosters (Or welcomers depending on the result of HappyWiki’s Welcomer Rights Project).
If this were to be created, I would imagine it being an admin and booster-only tool (or even just admin). I would expect troll users to use this tool to say that certain usernames are allowed.
We already have a method of reviewing new usernames here: wikihow.com/Special:Log/newusers
Well, if you see a user with an inappropriate username making contributions, you should leave a message on their talk page ({{username}} template). If a user isn’t actively contributing, there usually isn’t any need as nobody will notice it anyway. I don’t really see it as a priority, username violations aren’t usually that common.
