I am NOT trying to be mean, but I don’t get the flashy neon user and talk pages!!! NOTHING about them is attractive to anyone that isn’t YOUNG!

It’ll be the day when kids stop treating wikiHow as a kid site.

I don’t think very many of us understand it.
I’m young and I don’t understand it. That’s how non-understandable it is. Can there be some small regulation on this? If I felt I were logging onto an editing site instead of somewhat of a social network, editing would be that much more rewarding.
As a Page Designer myself, I feel that some pages are very bright and flashy, but again some are not. But, lots of people like to express their personalities through wikiHow with the articles they create and edit, and the option to personalize their pages a bit lets people know who they are and remember them.
I mean, when you think of me, Page Designing crosses your mind once or more doesn’t it? But, I don’t know what to do about the people who do create flashy neon pages and people who messily page design. *ahem* I won’t say any names, but a few can come to mind.

Personally, when I think of you, I think of a decent article writer. Page Designer doesn’t come into my mind.

Those pages burn my eyes. If I have to read something from those pages, I press Ctrl+A and it gives a bit of relax.
actully, it hurts my eyes but,BR likes my neon user page!

Either that, or he is being nice…or it’s the fact that his eyes are going bad anyway.
^ Probably the last one, but he’s nice, anyway, it hurts my eyes a bi too, I have to squint to see some words, but that’s rare for me, and I try to have my page, hmm, dialed down, if you would, just a bit. June Days

Let’s not look at one editor, but as far as page designing goes in a general aspect, the person with the designed/customized page needs to realize that wikiHow is read by anyone in the world at any age (whether it’s a 14 year old from Nebraska, a 65 year old from the UK, or a 37 year old from India). Even when someone patrols, we need to “view” the page for all changes - so don’t think userpages are a “secret”. I know that teens love crazy colors, but a website goes both ways. Respect the designer - but readers and other editors also need the same line of respect.
Well, thank you anyway!
That means a lot to me you know…
Anyway, I think there should be a rule about how bright the colors can be or a Page Designing Policy. Thoughts?
We already kind of had that discussion
. Short answer: No.
Oh, okay, sorry!
Didn’t know about that- never checked.

Doing things like putting borders around your text to make important information stand out, or coloring your page a little to reflect your personality is fine. But people are getting a little to carried away with it.
I agree, but I am a Page Designer and when someone asked for a neon green, pink, and yellow User Page, I can’t just say “but that won’t look good. How about blue and green?” because we are supposed to decorate how they want it.

Thick borders around text blinds people more than others think.
When someone asks a page designer if they could decorate their page, what about a suggestion that you initially ask what neutral colors they would like instead of offering “What colors did you want?”. That question alone gives them the opportunity to go wild and when you “reject” it, it contradicts your original question because you did in fact open it up to any color.

We should follow Facebook. No ability to have background colors
As the smartest person on the Internet said in the previous thread,
I also think that going around removing background colours from people’s user pages is a waste of resources, and a bad idea on the grounds of rule proliferation alone.
