I’ve noticed quite a few articles about cosmetic surgery, but there doesn’t seem to be a category for it. The best place I’ve seen for it would probably be under Health Care and Medical Information
, although I’m not entirely sure.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I think it should be a new category. Let’s see what others have to say.
Right, a good category name would organize all these articles well.
That’s great! I think it’s health or beauty…
I’m thinking it could go under Personal Care and Style
, because plastic surgery is about looking good, not about resolving health issues.
Subcategories of Personal Care and Style include Tattoos and Piercings and Spa Treatments & Massages. Those seem like fitting sister categories.
I agree with @MissLunaRose
’s observations.

No. Plastic surgery is not always about “looking good.” Reconstructive surgery can include plastic surgery, which may be trying to restore a normal appearance, such as surgery had after receiving a burn or other traumatic injury.
In short, plastic surgery is not always considered cosmetic surgery, nor is it always an “elective” surgery. It belongs under the Health Care/Medical Information category.
Good point @Isorhythmic
!
Couldn’t we just subcategorize it under the two?

I don’t think so. Whether effected for aesthetic or purely medical reasons, plastic surgery is a branch of medicine, not “personal care.” It is performed by surgeons who have trained extensively in their field of specialization. Putting it under “Personal Care and Style” would reduce it to the realm of beauticians, stylists, and the like, where it most certainly does not belong. A cursory glance at that category should demonstrate that such articles are out of place there.

I started having a look around at open category requests, with a focus on the larger potential categories (see here
for reasoning about why - for now, at least, prioritizing the bigger ones).
That in mind, I went ahead with creating: https://www.wikihow.com/Category:Plastic-and-Cosmetic-Surgery
It does seem like a good thing to keep health/medical related, just because it is actual surgery. The Health Care and Medical Information category strikes me as one suited more to info about the healthcare system and information about one’s medical records and the like, rather than specific procedures, though? I’m not certain though. There’s a lot miscategorized in there that we could stand to clean up, either way.
For now, I’ve put plastic and cosmetic surgery under Health in general, to sort of line up with some of our other broader health topics… but, there could be a better place for it. We can move if anyone has any good ideas or clarifications about how they see the Health Care and Medical Info category. I’ll close for now but feel free to post a-fresh or reopen if there’s more we should do here.
