Hi everyone - I’ve created a prototype for a completely new version of the wikiHow tour. My thoughts behind it are that I was trying to make it as simple and welcoming as possible, removing a lot of the overwhelming things that are in the current tour. Please take a look at it and let me know what you think below - if there’s anything that really needs to be in there missing or anything that could do with tidying up a bit. If there’s enough support for this new version, I would love to get the wikiHaus’s permission to roll it out, so votes for and against would be appreciated. http://www.wikihow.com/User:Busbyhead/Tour
Note: If it was to be rolled out, I think it would be a good idea to get the permission of everyone in the collage first, don’t worry! I picked the images from the people with actual face pictures most recently active in the forums, so no favouritism there, I promise! :)
Well. I did approve, until you removed me from the opening slide. I reject. No, just kidding. It looks good, but why did I you remove my pic?
Oh did you see it before then?
It’s nothing personal, I promise… I just thought the first collage would be too long for some screen resolutions, so I cut off the bottom third… sorry!

It looks awesome to me, especially the wall of faces. Maybe just a quick link to the Writer’s Guide somewhere?

. (Begin Sad Voice)Okay, well, I can see nobody loves me here.(End Sadness) Just kidding. Ok. It’s no big deal.
Yep, writer’s guide… good idea
Thanks
Looks really good! I think on the last page (“Your wikiHow journey starts here”), we should have links to how-tos so people how how to do those things (How to Add Images, Copyedit an Article, Expand a Stub etc)
@Illneedasaviour
- I think the ones I linked to are pretty self explanatory - that’s why I linked to them rather than formatting or something like in the old tour. But if they really are stuck, on the category pages they link to, there are links to help pages like that
Create a bus -> Let the user sit in the bus.Let him travel different sections which are interactive -> The user is highly satisfied and is rearing to contribute. How was my idea???
@Busbyhead
– I worked a lot on the original version of the tour as one of my earliest projects at wikiHow, and I think that this is a really good refresh. Nice work, Martyn
Looks awesome! =D June Days

I love it! Do you mind if I make some edits? Or should I make a copy and edit that? Just to play around with it.

Looks great to me! I’m definitely liking the simple, easy step-by-step approach. It’s a good solution to ensuring we don’t possibly overwhelm new users with so much information, thus turning them away from the tasks wikiHow needs help with the most.
@Krystle
- feel free to do what you like with it - it’s up to you if you want to make a copy or not
@Chris
H - I remember when it was first introduced - it’s done its job well!
This is an AWESOME refresh! I love it. Would you minded if I added a few edits too? Also, one UI thing. I think inexperienced internet users really benefit from the big, obvious “next and back” images on the top and bottom of the page. The ones on the new tour look nice, but are sufficiently subtle that many users won’t see them. Can we add more obvious large buttons to the top and bottom like seen here: https://skitch.com/jackherrick/ec4w6/wikihow-tour-mission-wikihow
Overall this is just fantastic! A very, very impressive bold edit!
Yep - perhaps the old arrows but coloured a slightly less orangey colour? Unless the orange is essential of course
It’s great! Can I add a link to patrolling? June Days
Hi June - I left patrolling out because I thought it might be a bit advanced
It looks good to me! Only one thing, the slide that begins with “Hello!” could maybe have the “We’re here to help” in the big font instead of the other way round. Then it would fit in nicely with “We’re open!” and “We’re growing!”. Just a thought.
