Both @Laura7491
and myself have almost lost (or lost) an article because it wouldn’t save when submitted. Said something about time out and couldn’t save it. If it happens again, will add more.
@ttrimm
Can you tell me again which browser & operating system you’re using when this happens? And it only happens here and there? Or frequently?
Note: Laura’s using Windows Vista Ultimate & FF 3.6.17
Windows 7 and FF 3.6.17 I will start another article tonight and try it out. But when it happened, it was in guided editing. I had a suspicion something was going to happen and copied the content.
I have had the same problem several times. I am on Google Chrome, using a brand new laptop. I have cleared the cache, and the cookies, and it still happens. It is fairly frequent. I generally use guided editing.
Lillyshak, I don’t think it’s “our” computers or browsers’ fault. It’s wikiHow’s bug.
I am waiting for wikiHow to fix it in order to publish my article… Very frustrating when things are out of your control and you can’t do anything to correct.
Well, I forgot to save my article and its draft is gone now. I have to recreate it. Grrr…
where’d your intuition come from ttrimm? :D. You had a suspicion – must be a symptom, right?
I think it was the warning sign I saw or something. I copied the whole text of the article then went into Advanced editing and worked on it there.

Just submitted an article and had no problem. Used the Guided Editing.
Ttrimm, do you mean if I don’t use Guided Editing I will not be able to Publish? Can you please clarify for me?
NO. That is the way I worked around it. I copied it, went to Advanced Editing and then pasted it. I am no longer having this problem that I know of, anymore. Are you still having it?
I don’t know yet. I lost my draft and did not have time to recreate yet. I don’t mean to be critical, but generally you are NOT supposed to play around the problem. It should be so much easier to publish than what you had to do. That is not right. If they do not fix this problem we may have more in the future. I will let you know about my article. Glad it worked for you.
I’m very sorry about this problem. We are trying to solve this but are having a hard time recreating it. Can folks who are getting this bug keep submitting detailed info here so we can try to solve it. Again, I’m sorry about this!
Hallelujah! LOL I completely recreated my article, and clicked Publish and it worked at the first shot. Whatever you guys do, fixing the bug, worked … at this moment at least. LOL Congrats!
@Krystle
and @Ttrimm
…Ladies - FYI : I use Windows 7 and Firefox 19 now. @Krystle
, just to let you know that same problem in the Categorizing app. exist… shows 128 articles to be categorized, yet when I clicked Start I got the same “No articles…” message. ------------------------------- @Ttrimm
, I will follow your solution next time it happens. What I did with the other article not publishable I opened a new browser window and copy/paste my “failed” article into the new one right away, the intro first, then copy/paste each step, then publish, and finally close the “bad” one.

Hey @Ttrimm
, here we go again about publishing a new articles bug …I had such a frustration today - lost a (long) GOOD article with a lot of images on each step … I even posted a new thread on it … I was only able to manually save the draft once when creating quite a long article. The rest of the time it showed “draft saved” which is very deceiving. It was very weird and I suspected I’d lose it. I was right!!. I ended up discarding the draft with leftover Intro section. Obviously this time I could not recreate an article from scratch like I did last time. Time and efforts spent but all invain, again.
A message “draft saved” should represent the reality or be removed completely. Is it possible to program it that the article would be actually saved automatically by the system? Right now it’s not being saved. The new ‘trusting’ writers will believe this deceiving message and will have a lot of frustrations.

One thing that I have done @Laura7491
is make sure that a draft is saved and the correct version before I close the window.
