Are smiles allowed in names? I don’t remember.
They’re not grounds for a {{username}}, but I think they sometimes break formatting in certain areas of the site (RC patrol, for example). So they should probably ask for a username change

Up to now, Krystle has removed punctuation marks and other stuff that messes things up, at one time, people were encouraged to send a link to a username that had those kind of things in them. Since she is on vacation, (until tonight?) we may need to wait to see if things have changed.

Punctuation in usernames was causing issues with diff pages, but that is something that is going to get fixed, so in the meantime let’s let people have their emoticons in their usernames if they want. The diff issue doesn’t actually break anything, just makes the time weird when patrolling recent changes.
