It hasn’t even been a week at the wikiHaus since we cried during the sadness of Krystle’s last day.  We will always miss her.  Terribly so.

On the good news front, I do want to report that the amazing @Anna picked up right where Krystle left off on 2017 meetup planning.  We are getting very close to picking a winning location.  I don’t want to steal @Anna ’s thunder when she is ready to announce this…so I’ll be vague.  But I’m happy to say that I think meetup 2017 is going to be pretty cool!  It will be a part of the USA that wikiHow has never visited before. I’ve personally never been there either and am looking forward to checking out a new city.

Here’s a big WOOT for Anna’s awesome meetup planning during a sad week.

Thanks Jack! Definitely new territory for me, and I don’t know about hitting Krystle’s benchmark of awesomeness on meetup planning… but I do consider my current personal wedding planning to be great practice for the Real Deal: Meetup 2017:slight_smile:

Spoilers for anyone super eager: The location and hotel we’re shooting for were a fab suggestion by @Elocina … although to be fair, she submitted several fab ones, so that doesn’t narrow it down so far!!

Seriously, though, in kicking off the next steps of planning, I’ve already sooo appreciated all of the great suggestions everyone made in the form and forum post. Krystle did a lot of legwork on investigating them, and I’ve picked up where she left off. It’s been so valuable having everyone’s ideas and input about where we could go… So a big thank you to @Elocina , @Jordan , @LeahlovesGod , @Marina , @Byankno1 , @JackHerrick , @Loiswade42 , @Lojjik , @Colie , @WithGlitter , and everyone else who submitted hotel possibilities. This is far far from a solo effort already!

I think and hope everything will go okay as we iron out the details and options with the main venue currently on the table - for anyone interested in joining us, watch this space and we’ll confirm the dates and location once we know it’s a “go”; I just don’t want to shout out a false start here and have anyone block off the wrong time or place, in case anything changes as we firm up details. But fingers crossed we’ll be able to announce something soon!

I hope the planning works out. I know I recommended places in at least three states (as well as Canada), so while I have a feeling of what it will be based on the clues here, I could be off.

Sounds wonderful, we are hoping to attend!

I a really excited about this @Anna and I know that @Elocina  suggestion will be super coooooooool!

can a wiki meet up be in Dubai or Cyprus so i can go there:frowning:?

I wanna know where it is! I want to get ready for the meetup already. Even though it’s like, another ten months away.:wink:Sheesh, I’m already excited for the next meetup and it’s not even officially announced yet.:stuck_out_tongue:

@ItsHelen , from my understanding, we only really host meetups in areas where there’s a concentrated population of wikiHowians. Most of the wikiHowians seem to be in North America, so that’s where most of our meetups have been held (I think they’ve gone to the UK before, but don’t quote me on that). I think the main concern with going somewhere like Dubai or Cyprus is that we don’t seem to have a lot of wikiHowians based around that area, so it’d be pretty tough to get everyone to travel there. Plus, there’s also the issue of where to stay, safety, and what to do, as well as any additional accommodations for those who need it - which is an issue everywhere , not just there.

There’s been a few wikiHow meetups in the UK, as well as a meetup in Argentina in conjunction with Wikimania (conference put on by the Wikimedia foundation) back in the days where the majority of meetups were done in conjunction with wiki conferences run by other groups.

Hopefully, as wikiHow gets more of an international presence there can be more meetups in other countries outside the US.

It seems harder to do a meetup in Europe, but I would love a North or South American one outside of the States one day! Super excited for 2017’s meetup:smiley:

I think Europe is completely doable, but with Anna new to the job (and killin it might I add) organizing 2 meet ups might be rough. In the future who knows, the small wikiStaff might be able to yank something together. Frankly if we do more than 1 meetup, though, I think some wikiHowians may need to get involved.:slight_smile:It’s been a request for every year I’ve been here and each time it sounds a little more feasible from what I’ve heard. edit: BTW, I don’t have extra information from the wikiHaus on this, Im just putting together what I’ve heard from the past. I could be completely and utterly wrong, hah.

I’m happy to help do research for meetup planning (accommodations, restaurants, things to do, etc.) if I have time:slight_smile:

@ GalacticRadiance  I got jealous of you! I wish I could go:frowning:

but maybe in the next 3 years, i’ll be there too :))
