The page is frozen and I can not click a action or do a shortcut. http://i.imgur.com/IazE7Qs.png I have restarted my computer and refreshed the page. There was a change before that, I could patrol that. Not this one for some reason. Could someone try to patrol it? Edit/Update: I went past that edit. But now it freezes on some every now and then

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this problem. RC Patrol has very well-known issues and I believe something better may be in the works. Until then, we can try to work out any important issues you might be having. I think stalling is a very well-documented issue in RCP and it occurs for a number of reasons, and I can’t identify exactly which one without being able to use your browser’s JavaScript error console. Would you be able to follow this article, reporting any errors you see when it stalls? http://www.wikihow.com/Report-Javascript-Errors-in-Your-Browser Lojjik

Okay, so an extension called “Disconnect” makes it worse. It is still stalling Errors: Easier to screenshot http://prntscr.com/4wj0bf

David. I am having a similar problem to what you are having. It is locking up on me every time I click the “Mark as Patrolled” button to patrol an edit. The edit in question does get patrolled. However, none of the buttons but the “Back” button work on the next revision that shows up. That revision is a 3-4 year old revision of [Cheesekid]( http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Brownies-From-Scratch >Make Brownies From Scratch</a> by <a href=). I then have to reload RC Patrol and then patrol another edit only to have it lock up on me yet again. Because of this, I can only patrol one edit at a time. Like @Sudoking was mentioning, RC Patrol is the most problematic tool on the site. It has so many bugs that it is notfunny. You can see a now closed report of mine about the lock up issue I am having with RC Patrol

You may find using the older recent changes patrol will serve you better, especially McDonalds1, if you cannot patrol but one edit at a time. Look under the explore tab, click recent changes, and scroll down the list to an edit and click the ‘‘diff’’ link, and it will begin loading edits to patrol. You won’t have the quick edit or quick note function, but for many edits, simply marking as patrolled or rolling back is all that is needed.

I am keeping a list in this post, of edits I got stuck on, so that maybe I can find a pattern. I was getting stuck on http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Change-a-Wound-Dressing&oldid=15652426&diff=prev http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Have-Fun-with-No-Money- !!!-(Yourself)&oldid=15653994 Though I could not mark as patrolled and nor could I skip, I was able to roll this one back. And then I rolled back my rollback. I tried to encounter it again in patrol, but have not yet found it. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Clean-Playtex-Sippy-Cups&oldid=15654027 for the sippy cup article, I tried the quick note and quick edit buttons and the thumbs up button. All work, but using those does not help me be able to activate either the Marked as Patrolled button or the skip button. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Sign-Up-for-Hootsuite&oldid=15654173

I edited “Change a Wound Dressing” here - http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Change-a-Wound-Dressing&diff=next&oldid=15652426 and was able to patrol that diff in the RCP app as Serendipitee. Maybe @Anna et al knew the issue was not strictly tied to an individual article, but I didn’t. (I do now, though.)

Starting a new list of problems. This one is a new article. I can’t even find a way to mark it in the Recent Changes. Is anyone else getting stuck on this one? http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Uplift-Your-Community&oldid=15654285

It looks like a newer contributor - @RishabhG was able to patrol that edit.

This used to happen to me and, I think, to very few others, but I have not experienced this behavior for about three or four months.

Hi, I made a change/fix that could affect this issue that people have been seeing. To see this fix, you’ll need to “Force Refresh” ( http://www.wikihow.com/Force-Refresh-in-Your-Internet-Browser ) the RC Patrol app at http://www.wikihow.com/Special:RCPatrol . While debugging this problem, I found that when certain articles with bad characters in them were loading as the next article in sequence in RC Patrol, there were server problems. (“Bad characters” being letters that might display like this: http://glui.me/?i=pcpl3ox7y0xebes/2014-10-19_at_7.10_PM.png/ .) If there were characters like this – which sometimes weren’t visible – you might have run a “wall” in RC Patrol, when you couldn’t move on to the next edit. The change I made was to try to force encoding these characters properly on the server so that it doesn’t respond with an error. This server error is what caused the “wall.” I also made another change to try and solve some of these problems more generally. I’ve changed RC Patrol so that it tries to detect when there was a problem on the server. If there was a problem, you might now see a little box in the corner like this: http://glui.me/?i=vh4ceomv2s2ig9z/2014-10-19_at_7.41_PM.png/ Reloading RC Patrol just refreshes the page, but clicking to show the technical information might show debug information that could be used to track down the issue that caused this error. One note about this little error box: When it pops up, it previously would have been a “wall” in RC Patrol that forced you to reload the page anyway. Now, if you click Mark as Patrolled, it will likely just keep showing you the same revision over and over, instead of the button just not responding to your pushes. I know this is frustrating, but hopefully the addition of the debug information will help us make these problems less and less frequent. Reuben

@Reuben - Thank you trouble shooting this issue and providing a fix. Hopefully, the frequency of occurrences will diminish and the pop-up will help everyone to move past these patrols. I infer that you have implemented software capture of the instances which trigger the pop up, but wanted to make sure that there was no need to report ongoing instances of encountering “The Wall”/Pink Floyd syndrome.

No, unfortunately, we will still need your help to report these issues. Certain problems only really manifest in the browser, and we don’t have a good way to log these problems from the browser such that they are captured along side a particular server-side event right now. This browser message will hopefully be valuable in understanding why the failures happen. After we understand that better, we’ll have a better chance of fixing the issues that crop up automatically. For example, we may eventually be able to skip over problematic articles/revisions when a problem happens. Reuben

In case it helps, here is the link to the diff that RC Patrol is locking up on for me. http://www.wikihow.com/index.php?title=Make-Brownies-from-Scratch&diff=6018269&oldid=6018254

@McDonalds1 this is an issue with Patrol Coach - I’ll follow up on your talk page and see if we can figure out what’s happening exactly!

@Krystle : I’ve sent you the link to a video I recorded of this happening with the Javascript console open using SnagIt. You may be viewing the video right now. That is all right, because you may not respond right away.

Since the bug affecting most people has been resolved, and it seems other folks aren’t experiencing the same behavior as McDonalds1 (judging by previous threads and conversations on this issue), I’m going to close this thread in favor of Talk page messages for the one-off case. Thanks to Reuben for the big fix!
