I was making a quick edit to an article in the RCP. When I write a word, it deletes the next letter ahead of it, so you need to completely re-write the entire step in order for the sentence not to be incomplete. So if the sentence was: cut the watermelon; and I wanted to add a capital to the letter C (normally I backspace and then write the proper capitalization), the C would go away, but when I re-write the C, the sentence would become: Ct the watermelon. So on and so forth. This has happened a few times in the past. It is very confusing. It happened to a few articles, but I just re-tried it and it stopped so I cant take any screen shots or anything.

Ew, frustrating! Sorry about that. I thiiiiiiink this sounds like it might be something to do with overwrite on your keyboard – I’ve had this happen before on various programs, mostly Word, when I was using a PC. As much as I hate to provide Yahoo Questions as a source of information, can you try one of these solutions and see if it helps?

It happens because the insert key has been struck on my keyboard, I have to hit it again to unlock it…stupid keyboard…

Ah hah, yes that’s the button! Clever man; bad, terrible, no good keyboard. Try that Leah – let me know if it’s still funky after that, though! Always willing to believe that the ghouls of RCP are haunting us, too:slight_smile:

Okay! I will see if that works next time! I have never clicked that button before but I hope it works!:stuck_out_tongue:Thanks for the help!

@Anna and @BR that was the case! I just tried it by clicking the Insert button and it happened again. Clicked it to unlock it and it worked. Thanks again!

The best way to fix it is to take your keyboard to the local welding shop and have them weld a 1/2 inch thick steel plate over the insert key (get the danged caps key, too)…but figure on using a crane if you move the keyboard, and laptops won’t close like they used to.

Or, you know, you could buy a Mac. *Anna ducks and hides from Bob*

Why get the “danged caps key” when we have http://www.wikihow.com/Hear-Tones-when-Pressing-the-Lock-Keys-on-a-PC-Keyboard ! (The screenshots will be added sometime soon, but not quite yet). Since I don’t have a Mac, I don’t know if they have something comparable.

It doesn’t happen too much. And it is too expensive to buy a new computer-sorry!:stuck_out_tongue:
