Based on other people’s comments in forum threads, I came up with a page to make on wikiHow. It’s called Rules of the Forums. It may be incomplete, since there is more to be added. You can take a look here and post your thoughts and opinions: http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Rules-of-the-Forums

This isn’t a policy, therefore I don’t think it has a place in the wikiHow namespace. Also. There have been attempts at this before, and they have been declined if memory serves. Let me know if you want me to move it to your user namespace.

maybe it could be moved?

We have a document that’s somewhat similar to what you’re proposing, although it mainly focuses on the tone of posts: http://wikihow.com/wikiHow:Forum-Dialogue-Expectations

Maybe I can add my thoughts about rules to that, and then create a redirect. No bumping threads, no posting unnecessary threads, etc.

Well you shouldn’t add it until there is a community consensus for it to be added.

other people can comment on this thread stating whether they support or oppose that.

Alrighty, will do. If you were to add rules about threads, it’s sort of useless unless you add a bit of guidelines behind it.:wink:It’s like a stranger saying ‘Don’t talk about anything I don’t like!’ to say they cant start unnecessary threads. What isn’t necessary? There’s a general chat section, so why couldn’t they just start a thread saying that they want to talk about Halloween in mid July? What makes a thread necessary? Technically, we don’t *need* a thread about fashion, but if you look under the chat section, the community doesn’t have a problem with it and it’s thriving! I think the rule’s good, but it needs some sort of information to show what the community considers necessary and what it doesn’t. As for the rule about bumping threads, you might want to give a quick explanation on what bumping a thread is. You also probably want to put a time on what we consider being an old thread, maybe a community consencus. What the community agrees on in that is going to vary, though. For example, the ‘bump’ thread has been bumped so many times simply because that’s the point of the game! If you see it hasn’t been bumped in 2 weeks, all the better because that’s how the game goes! You want to bump it after a long amount of time! Those are my only concerns:slight_smile:If there’s a rule added, it needs some information behind it.

I don’t support rules/guidelines. wikiHow, on purpose, has as little guidelines as it can, to insure site safety of course, but it just wouldn’t be as fun as it is with rules. You can kindly tell users what they’re doing is not of wikiHow’s best interest, and hopefully they’ll learn. They most likely will, and if they don’t, give a temporary block; or they are usually trolls. If you tell people not to bump threads, or create useless threads enough times, then they’ll eventually listen. I know I did; and a lot of other users did, too. It’s a “learn as you go” kind of thing. June Days

I’m new to making rules, and I may want to ask an admin to redirect or delete that page?:wink:Thanks everyone for the advice.
