If there is a certain event going on in the world, it is known on wikiHow for it to become a featured article. I was wondering because of the vote on Scottish independence at the moment if that should be a featured article? I am not sure if that is written yet but I could write it if needs be. It’s kind of like the ALS Ice Bucket Discussion but on a different topic. Just an idea.
Hi Hannah, Could you please clarify what you mean by your first sentence? I don’t think there a policy somewhere that says that every front-page news item must become a featured article. As much as I’m interested in Scottish independence (I’m 25% Scottish), I don’t really see a good way to turn the independence itself into a how-to article – let alone a featured quality one. If the topic was Understand Scottish Independence, it would probably be too encyclopedia-like to be featured. And if it was How to Achieve Scottish Independence, it’s likely that it would be nominated for deletion on the grounds that it’s societal instructions. May I suggest that you work on improving other articles related to Scotland and Scottish culture? That may be your best shot of getting a Scottish-related article featured in time for the vote. Thanks, Nicole
No, I was just saying about how some wikiHow articles on the news get featured but thanks for the feedback.
The only idea I have which might work is “Vote in Scotland” or “Vote in the UK” (since voting in Scotland may currently be the same as in the UK, I’m not sure). It seems like the only voting article wikiHow currently has is US-centric (and should probably have its title changed to "Vote in the United States): http://www.wikihow.com/Vote
Voting is probably different in each country and if voting articles were done by country, it could potentially be something that could be featured around major elections. I made some minor edits to the article about calling Scotland, and will look at other Scotland related articles as time permits.
Aah! Great idea! Thanks for the feedback!
oh you can create an article “How to vote in scotland” you then list all the steps one needs to vote and maybe also list the voting booths
I think it may need to be How to Vote in the UK (at least until Scotland obtains independence). Also, while I think you could give a link for voting locations, I think listing all the voting booths would take a lot of space. Register to Vote in the UK is another idea.
Okay great ideas everyone! I will wait to see if Scotland do become independent before taking on any action.
