Countless times have I found myself scrolling through my notifications to find the last time a user has sent me a message so I have the link to send that specific person a message. Therefore, I feel that there should be a search box where you can search for a specific user to send a message to. Basically, what I am saying is that if I wanted to ask an experienced booster something like advice on how to boost articles, I can ask @Ttrimm or @Illneedasaviour through the search box. This is just an idea so I don’t know how it will develop. Therefore, I would love people’s opinions. Thanks! Hannah x:)

Or, just use http://www.wikihow.com/User: [insert user name here] in your URL bar. Pretty much works as fast as typing into a search box and clicking on the results if you can type at a decent pace. I believe there was a discussion regarding user search queries some time back …

I know about that @HelperT2895 which is great, but if I was looking for somebody’s username but didn’t quite know what it was then that suggestion wouldn’t work. That is what i do now because I know most people’s usernames now but I am aiming this for the newer editors who maybe don’t know the usernames off by heart. Thanks anyway! Hannah x:)

Sounds like a good idea.

There’s this… which is searchable… http://www.wikihow.com/Special:ListUsers

ok. i can ask jack.

Okay @Loiswade42 but we should make that more well known. Thanks!

@Loiswade42 , that can be quite annoying searching through a list of 6000 users just to find one. Can we make an alternative?

If you want to find a user, type in as much as of the username as you know and the list will start there. You’re still searching through thousands of users, just narrowing it down considerably. I don’t understand what the alternative would be. You’d still have to search through the entire user list.

you could also use http://www.wikihow.com/Special:Search and select “Advanced” and keep only user namespace checked – all users who have content on their userpages will be searched

Okay thanks @Lojjik @Isorythmic ! That helps:slight_smile:

How about using the CTR+F or CMD+F (find) shortcut?

Okay thanks @TammySin !

I agree.

You could use the ideas above ^^ @BlakelsCool
