I’ve noticed a rise in Indian people joining wikiHow, but, I’ve also noticed a lot of articles in Indian. Should we create a wikiHow in Hindi?

We’ve been quite challenged in getting new languages of wikiHow really off the ground, and it’s not an easy process to set up and localize a new version of wikiHow. We really need a solid group of dedicated speakers of a language who are invested both in wikiHow itself and in the lengthy process of building a new version of wikiHow before it makes sense to do this. There are some things that people can do to help start the process on English wikiHow, however, and I’m happy to assist bilinguals who want to begin building a wikiHow in a new language. Just leave me a talk page message.

India is not monolingual. While Hindi and English are the recognized national languages, there are literally hundreds of other dialects.

Good point. There would need to be a lot of “respect the original author’s dialect” education!

The best thing about this website is that the content is entirely user created. If an article is desired, a viewer can request it and that request can be filled. I know one of my favorite things to do here is answer requests like that, because it allows me to share my knowledge with those thirsting for it. It’s a very democratic way of teaching with an excellent system of one-on-one interaction. The way this applies to establishing a wikihow in Hindi, is that all you would need to provide is the forum, and soon I’m sure you would find that bi-lingual people already using wikihow would begin translating articles, attracting more of the native speakers of the language. Overall, I feel it would be highly lucrative.

Hindi is a popular language… I say if we can have quite a few people who are willing ot help out, go for it!

Huh? I thought wikiHow was non-profit / hybrid?

It’s a for profit site, that makes its income via ads displayed to non registered users. wikiHow never asks for money to its users like Wikipedia would do for example.

I think we should!
