I have begun to notice something. Simple titles, which, quite often we think we have, get a lot of views. Use Twitter, a very popular article, Use Gimp, got views quickly. If anyone wanted to write some basic Use XXXX, they will get a lot of views if they are common software. Like Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, etc.

Yes! Totally. Even if you think the simple title might be too broad, we can always take a broach approach to the topic, such as: http://www.wikihow.com/Bake-Cookies Or, we can link to the many articles we have already: http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Apples

It might be from search queries.

???

LOL!!! I meant, when people search how to do something, for example, “How to Bake Cookies”, they would search a short phrase or string of words. They would search “how to bake cookies”, instead of “how to bake chocolate chip cookies for a wedding in less than two hours”.

exactly. It will help us in the searches

Not to get too far off topic here, but I wonder if the more low-hanging fruit, simple-title-wise, might lie in the more social titles, v…software, and pc ones? (Sorry, still integrating wH “not-in-common” keywords w/eHow, who are quite pc heavy) Not to say that the simplest title in any article isn’t…best?

ok, maybe not : )

because pretty hard to find a simple title anymore?

It is, but it just takes a little thinking. I was shocked that we didn’t have Use Gimp!

Here’s one. http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Paint-Shop-Pro http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Gimp was also recently created with that in mind.

I just noticed this in my new article http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Lael’s-Butternut-Squash-Bacon-Beer-Soup . Could I get an admin to remove “Lael’s” please?:slight_smile:And is there a better place I can make requests to admins? Thanks!

Yup! You can always: 1. Go to the list of admins ( http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Administrators ) and ask one. The users who are online most often are @Maluniu and @Ttrimm . 2. Post on the Admin’s Notice Board ( wikiHow:Administrator Notice Board - wikiHow ) under the correct sub-header. 3. Ask on the Help Team page ( http://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow\_talk:Help-Team ). 4. Ask in the wikiHow’s IRC chat room, if possible ( http://www.irc.wikihow.com ). 5. If it’s something like renaming or deleting an article, you can put a tag on it ( http://www.wikihow.com/Category:Article-Templates ). Hope that helps @Cargoyle !

Article renamed. Also, was the title tag really on since January 1st 1970?

lol lets hope not:slight_smile:

of course not, wikiHow wasn’t even in existence until 2004 ish :o January 1, 1970 is simply the Unix epoch

Hehe, yeah . . . . . I noticed that a couple minutes after I posted that, but I wasn’t able to fix it until now. :\

I’ve noticed that too. It might be beacause Someone wouldn’t search for how to learn to play basket ball to show you coach your ready to play. They would most likely search how to play basketball. And that would be the first article to pop up so it get’s selected!

Same.

um, @Ttrimm why is multiple titling, along the lines of Make Cookies I, Make Cookies II, or Make Cookies Ch, Make Cookies PB , not a good idea, again?
