I discovered that some, but not all, of my user preferences have been reset back to their default settings, even though I didn’t touch them. The ones that I know for certain have changed:
- The orange blur/“This article has not passed wikiHow’s quality review process” message was reenabled
- I’ve been readded to the WelcomeBot rotation
- Article Creator is now the default article-starting tool instead of Advanced Editor
- My timezone was reset to GMT
- Internationalisation/user pronouns were reset back to they/them (this doesn’t really show up anywhere, but I know I had it set to he/him)
My email settings seem intact; I’m not sure if there have been changes to anything else.

Woke up from a 3-hour nap and noticed my time zone defaulted and autopatrol disappeared. Thank god I’m not going crazy either! #idontneedantipsychoticsanymore

Per some digging through the RC feed, it looks like bots (e.g. Copyviocheckbot) and special actions (like image uploads or account creation) are still being autopatrolled, so at minimum, autopatrol is clearly working on some level – just not for us. I can’t speak to any of the other stuff.

Saved changes reset again, and anytime i make changes to my Preferences they reset at saving time.

Yeah, I’m having this issue too. I can
mostly edit with the default settings, but the main issue for me is the “remind me if I left a blank edit summary” setting. I really like that setting since it makes me enter an edit summary for all of my edits, which is best practice anyways, so I like it a lot.

Yeah. All of our custom User-set settings were reset. I can’t change them, and wish this issue would be revised with our old settings being fixed ASAP!

The issue is probably the fact that you can’t change the setting. It looks like the autopatrol setting is a wikiHow thing. According to the MediaWiki documentation, everyone who has the autopatrol right should automatically have their edits autopatrolled since there is no setting in vanilla MediaWiki (there use to be, but it was removed in 1.9. wikiHow is on 1.33). So the setting on wikiHow changes that behavior though some sort of extension. But the bots probably don’t have access to that setting, so their edits are just autopatrolled because of that.
I might be missing something in the documentation, but that’s what I found.

It could be; I’m not privy to the details. My comment was more to mention that autopatrol itself didn’t seem broken, and may have been prompted by the memory of waking up to something like 130000+ unpatrolled edits after the MediaWiki upgrade in 2019…

Porbably just as some others, I woke up surprised to see the times were all different – all GMT, and I’m getting really confused with everything because the time won’t match with my time. I got schoked to see the WelcomeBot also has been sending welcome messages signed by me – I had disabled it because I prefer sending manual welcomes since that in my control and I know who I’m welcoming, so the option WelcomeBot enabled was a huge shock! I’m also finding it really difficult accessing demoted articles, because I of the “This article has not passed wikiHow’s quality review process” warning. I can still edit, but it’s very difficult and I’m getting really impatient at this point.
It looks like my profile has also been cleared, even though the profile box page
still exists and has not been edited.

Huge ditto too, just noticed it this morning as I was checking out the new articles. My preference for “Show demoted article contents immediately, without prompting first” was disabled without warning.

Ok - preferences are back and working! Of course, as it would happen, for anyone who tried to change their settings while it was broken, they may not have gone back to what you had previously. I would recommend going in and checking/updating their settings (my autopatrol was back, but my timezone was still incorrect).
For anyone who didn’t change preferences during this time, their preferences should be correct and like nothing happened

Oh wow! Thanks for the fix!
I had honestly tried to change my preferences while it was still broken, so they had gone. But I knew how they were, and put it all back…and they…100% successfully
got saved!Glad it’s been fixed – I’m now back to editing as normal!
