So, I’ve met another wikiHow member, Lmmortal48, who has requested an article.  It is about making a bicycle from scratch (not assembling or purchasing).  If any of you have any experience on bicycles, bicycle manufacturing, et cetera, tell me.

Try these as inspirations: http://www.icebike.org/build-your-own-bike/ and https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eYwNo02o7yU

Sorry, I’ve got no time to write such a big article.  I’m requesting for someone to write one.

@Thehelper101 , people answer requests on their own time. You don’t need to make threads for unanswered requests:slight_smile:

It’s alright to leave it here though, right?

Yes

Hi there, @Thehelper101 ! Please follow these instructions to submit a suggestion:  https://www.wikihow.com/Request-a-New-Article-Topic-Be-Written-on-wikiHow .

This article gets VERY close to what you’d need…

I don’t have a lot of time to write… but the basics for a road bike are:

1 - Get a frame.  Everything else is based on the frame size and geometry.

2 - Paint or finish the frame (before adding anything else)

3 - Select the components.  You’ll need:

-Front fork and headset

-Handlebars

-Bottom Bracket (may come with frame… but if not… get one)

  • Brakes and brake cables

  • Crank set and Derailleur (unless building a single speed “fixie”… that would be a separate article)

-Shifter and shifter cables

-Chain that matches the gear ratio of the crank set and derailleur.

-Pedals

-Seat Post and seat

-Wheelset (don’t build your own wheels.  Leave that to a professional.  It’s a LOT of fiddly work that is easy to mess up)

-Bike stand (the type that clamps onto the seat tube and lets you spin/angle the bike for accessibility)About a day if you’re skilled.  About a month if it’s your first go around.

You can expect to spend in the neighborhood of $800 on cheap frame and components… up to $10,000 on a carbon fiber frame and top of the line components.

Mountain bike components would differ, as would components for a kids bike or a “fixie”.

Honestly, this isn’t just ONE article’s worth of information… it could be spun out into 5 or 6 lengthy and highly detailed articles… and you’d still not cover more than the basics.

Laughing… the “best” instructions would read:

Go to a good bike mechanic.  Hand him (or her) a LOT of money…

Heh, thanks!

I wish I was a bike mechanic.

Please keep to topic, thanks.
