Their are some spammers on wikiHow, they keep getting blocked, and the keep creating new accounts, and are harrassing users (Including me at one time.) and cussing. We need to do something about it. June Days
Hi June, Could you please clarify what you mean by “do something about it”? What can we do other than block people and add links to the spam blacklist?
Thanks, we try and keep an eye out for this. You can help too. http://www.wikihow.com/Track-Down-Vandals-on-wikiHow

If you’re worried about spammers leaving you messages on your talk page, an admin can protect it so only registered users can leave messages. Unfortunately, spam is something we have to fight. You can leave messages on the admin notice board
if you come across a prolific spammer.
Spam can be fought, but can never be killed. I think it is a great skill to develop thick skin to ward off bullying. Just laugh and say “Thanks!” or something back. This REALLY annoys them!

As far as I’m concerned, this would be considered feeding a troll and by doing so is giving them the attention they’re after. The best way to deal with them is not to respond at all after a warning is ignored, and post on the Admin Notice Board to have it taken care of.

Isn’t there IP bans or something?
I’m pretty sure they are registered if they keep creating new accounts.

In a worst case scenario, you can email a link to help at wikiHow, and Chris can put a wider ISP block, similar to the AshtonXXX troll a few months ago, but in the real world, spammers are more of an annoyance than an actual threat, so posting a link to their edits on the admin notice board is the best way to deal with them.
Yes, unfortunately spamming is a problem that you can’t really stop. Usually if someone posts a mean comment on my talk page, I just leave them a note or a {{kind}} template reminding them to be nice on wikiHow. As far as my experience goes, they’ve never said anything else to me after this, but if they did I would most likely simply ignore them.

Admins can block IPs from creating new accounts as well. It’s kind of like trying to desalt the oceans, but it’s a task that must be done. Blocking spams, not desalting the oceans. (Aside: I’ve used this analogy at least 5 times this week.)

i wanna help!! this thread haz been tagged!!
Please don’t bump old threads. If you want to help so badly, stop being a spammer yourself and start learning the rules of the forums. The first rule is not to bump threads that have “died” more than a week before you post on it.

The person in question was blocked. Please do not respond to/quote their posts, thanks!
