I have quite a few random stories from my life; most of these are from my childhood. When I think about them I wonder “What if this did/didn’t happen?” I don’t have many serious or life-changing stories from my life now though. I won’t elaborate on the specifics since that stuff is private and this is a public website. But I guess I could share some random stories below.
- Many years ago, I started my early childhood education at a public elementary school. I went to TK there. But I left the school partially because there was this kid who wouldn’t stop bothering me (he was extremely clingyand he would force me to go anywhere he wanted to go), and I had a lack of conflict resolution skills as a 5-year-old. I dreaded going to school where he was there. So I ended up going to a private school.
Summary
Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I actually stood up to him. Maybe after some persistence, he would leave me alone and I wouldn’t have to transfer schools.Maybe I would be closer to the neighborhood kids (I barely knew them as a kid). And I would know more people in my public high school if I had stayed in public school my whole life instead of transferring in the 9th grade.
- I made some very good friends in grade school. We were a group of about 5 kids. We would play with each other every day in elementary school and do homework together in class (if we were in the same class).
But starting in 5th grade, 2 kids from my friend group grew closer together. By the end of the year, the 3 other kids including me were completely separate from those 2. It made me realize that friends grow apartas we mature.
Summary 2
They shared more similar interests with each other than with us 3. For example, they would play Roblox. And they would frequently go to each other’s houses and stay in after-school care, things that they rarely did with us 3. I also found out what it means to be a “best friend forever” instead of just “best friend”.
- On the last summer vacation before the pandemic, I suddenly started crying on the plane back home. I had never cried while leaving the country before so it was strange for me to become emotional. I’ve taken a plane several times and it’s not like we weren’t going to see my relatives for a long time. Little did I know, that crying made sense since in the summer of 2020, it was clear I wasn’t going back there for vacation since the pandemic started and travel was restricted everywhere.
- A tidbit about recent days. For the past school year, some people in my AP Chinese class were not confident that they were going to succeed the class and get a high score on the AP test. There would always be some kid saying, “I’m cooked for the test”. Everyone was most scared of the speaking, and everyone discussed strategies they would implement in order to raise their exam grade if they did really bad on the speaking.
20 minutes before the exam started, we were doing nothing since our exam was delayed. But I heard people saying stuff like “I’m not going to survive!” and “Oh no, I’m not looking forward to the speaking parts.”

Summary 3
But as we finally completed the exam, we figured that we were just overthinking the whole thing and the test was simpler than we thought! It helped me realize that sometimes, we really overthink too much. If we properly prepare for something like an exam or interview, we will do decently. It’s not likely for us to fail a test if we’ve prepared for it. In most cases, the questions are things you’ve seen before in practice booklets and if a question seems hard, there is probably just a trick to it.

Great “moral of the story” pieces. I’ll have to keep those in mind!
