I asked one editor of wiki," Where can i send my suggestions?" and i am directed here. So I am posting my suggestions here-- ==Talk Page== *When a new message appears on a talk page, it would be great if it appears at the top, not at the bottom. I’m suggesting to sort the messages as the newest messages at the top. *The Message typing box should be at the top of all messages. *At the top of any talk page- we see something like-“User_talk: (user name)”. Could that Underscore(_) be removed and the heading be like-"(user name): Talk". *Sometimes we can see some IP addresses posting some messages. It looks funny, coz an IP address couldn’t post a message and IP is a sensitive info. So Could those be transformed into-“guest” or so…? ==Landing Page== *In the landing page(home page) there is two main sections-the top that show some awesome articles. and below some thumbnails of treading how tos. But for that reason its taking time to load( as the top howtos have pictures of bigger size and number too). Even on broad band its taking time(more than the typical 8-10 second stuff). so keeping the average worldwide internet speed- I’d like to suggest-“Reduce the number of How tos from the landing page”.As not everyone go through the landing page, most general info-seekers usually encounter the article directly through search engines. Basically , the editors of wikihow uses it. So it’d be great if it load a lil faster. ==Patrol Tips UX== *Sometimes pages are going unresponsive if the “delete” button is pressed. Its happening even in broad band(3.1 Mbps). currently thats almost all.

I read over what you said and here is just my 2 cents, ____________________________________________________ The Patrol Tips UX section is a good remark and our enjioneers would love to have a screen cast if you can of the bug so they can fix it! My opinion to that is It might affect the coding of the links and there really is no need to not have that _ there(although I see what you mean, it would be nice!!) ____________________________________________________ “Remove the number of How tos from the landing page”. Most users like having that there though:) It shows the people that visit there page how many articles they wrote __________________________________ __________________ And finaly ur guest idea, I think the point though of having IP addresses shown is so we can block that adress if there vandleizing, it also scares the vandels away:) I do like what ur saying though, if we could have a way to SECRETLY have there IP adress but it says “guest306” or something:)

  • I got it, the user_talk:(username)section couldn’t be changed as it’ll affecting the code, but yes, I’m asking for modification of the code a little for better. I dont think engineers will face much difficulties to do this.
  • I didn’t get what you wanted to say in reply of- "“Remove(Corrected-Reduced) the number of How tos from the landing page”.
  • And did you skip over the sections Message typing boxsection and sort the messagessection. Please kindly check.

Hey @Sotin . Thank you for taking time to write down these ideas. 1. Talk Page: I can see where you’re coming from, but it’s all a matter of getting used to. I myself have been on websites where the notification went from down to up, and vice versa, and as with everything new, it takes time to get used to it. 2. Message Typing Box: Again, I see where you’re coming from, and of course, this belongs to the previous section. If the messages would be newest to oldest, it would only be logical to have the Typing Box up top. But just as with the above message, I think it’s all a matter of getting used to. 3. The underscore is a core thing of many wiki’s. Take a look at Wikipedia for an instance. They use the exact same thing. Once you get a hang of it, it’s all quite simple to use. 4. I agree with you to a degree:wink:I don’t think everyone needs to see the IP addresses, however, Admins do need to see the IP address in case of a policy violation and we need to block the IP. If it were to be changed, it would be a hassle of naming them differently, and quite difficult since we have quite a few, and I find it easier to discern between two IP’s than between a “Guest1337 and Guest1373” for example. 5. The primary article on the home page of wikiHow are either Featured or Rising Star Articles. Removing a part of these articles, would be taking the “Reward” of having written a featured article away, at least for some people. 6. Patrol Tips: Could you explain what’s happening with the page? What are you able/not able to do when it happens?

  • I agree about The Primary Articles on the Home Page.and understood about the Underscore.
  • In case of New Messageson User_Talk:(username)-we have to scroll down a lot to reach the newer messages in current scheme. But if the messages be sorted newer at the top as i’ve suggested then that would be better.
  • And the Message typing boxwill go with the new message.No doubt. section.
  • I think I need to provide some screen shots about the problem of Patrol Tip.

@Sotin “I can see where you’re coming from” means that I can understand why you would want it like that, although I may not agree with it.

When you click on the notification about your talk page messages, it automatically goes down at post. If the current scheme really bothers you, then either you can link your message box on the top or blank/archive your talk page messages regularly.
