Sorry, I’m not sure what category to post this under, so I assumed it should be in the Bug Reports section. Has anyone else noticed that when you click on the “Write an Article” button, and then you type in keywords in the “I want topic suggestions” feature, that there are a lot of “unwritten” articles suggested that have actually already been written? Either that or they’re so interchangeable with articles that have already been written that they would for sure get merged? I always have to double-check that there are no duplicates before choosing a suggested title. Because I do this, I don’t have a huge problem with writing duplicate articles, but this is most likely a problem for newer users/anonymous users that don’t write on wikihow very often. I think that if this “I want topic suggestions” feature could be fixed up a bit, us wikiHowians would have less work to do when it comes to merging and deleting articles that have already been written. Basically what I’m asking is, is there any way for the “I want topic suggestions” feature to be fixed to that it actually does show you unwritten wikiHow article suggestions?

The Suggestions category does have a lot of requests in it that have already been written…I’ve said before that out of the 400,000+ requests right now, a lot of them could be deleted for one reason or another…either because of it being a duplicate, going against other policy, etc. It was brought up a few weeks ago that there are a lot of requests in the suggestions category that were actually written (with the title word for word) and the suggestions category recognizes this, but the request remains as a suggestion. Admins can clean them up manually but there doesn’t seem to be an automatic way right now. Here’s the thread about that: http://forums.wikihow.com/discussion/comment/15145

@Maniac - thanks, I’ll check out the thread.

@PinkStar You’re the same person as Pink_Star right? Weird that your name on the forums doesn’t have the underscore. Anyway, you can help remove duplicates by doing what I described in the other thread: Choose to write one of those duplicate topics. When you get to this screen, choose the radio button next to the title, then press “Next”. This will put the title in our “proposed redirects” list, which is reviewed by admins and new article boosters. If the titles mean the exact same thing, a redirect is created, and the request is pulled out of the requests list.Or if you want, you can remove a request directly by using this tool, since you’re an admin now: http://www.wikihow.com/Special:ManageSuggestions

@Krystle , Yes, I am the same person as Pink_Star. I have no idea why the underscore is left out here on the forums. Thanks for your comment - I found that really helpful and I am going to start sorting through those “unwritten” topic suggestions frequently.
