I don’t know how many people know this, but I’m a socialist. Yes, socialist. Today, me and a neighbor were discussing politics. It was going fine until I told him that I was a socialist. He started explaining how socialism is ‘evil’ and a ‘freedom drainer’. After that, he started to punch and scratch at me. He threw me on the ground, gave me a bloody nose and scratched my arms up badly. Why? Because I believe in socialism. This isn’t the first time I have gotten attacked for my beliefs. I can take physical and verbal insults, but I cannot take political insults. For example; I hate fascism and everything about it. If I had the power, I would wipe fascism off the Earth. I do know a couple of fascists bion. I hate fascism, but I never attack the fascists because that’s what they believe in. They believe that fascism works. Politics and Religion are very similar. You have political views and religious views. You BELIEVE that way. Would you insult somebody for not believing in God? So with that said, WE ARE HUMAN TOO. And if you hate socialists, you can kiss my fucking socialist ass.

IKR I mean, I don’t know what a socialist is, but I would never harm anybody for their beliefs. I know we don’t really know each other. But if I found out you are a socialist(which I still have no idea what that is) I wouldn’t cyberbully you. I am sorry, really, really, really, that you got hurt. I hope you get better!

really @jkl1234 ? you are not representing it well at all talking like that.

Oh my goodness, that’s horrible. And yes, I get insulted a bit for being an Atheist; it’s not a bad thing isn’t it? I’m still human, doesn’t matter if I’m an Atheist or a Christian. However, people have their opinions. To each their own I guess…And even with that, he still shouldn’t have acted in a violent manner. And what happened to you isn’t fair.:confused:June Days

You just did comment.

Ditto. The last sentence was a bit un-needed but other than that I can’t blame the guy.

Haters Gun’ Judge.

What? What’s that supposed to mean?

LOL.

Ok. LOL perfectly explains it. All I’m saying is that posting “no comment” on a thread like this is extremely risky as some people make think that you believe the guy had every right to attack JKL. I’m not saying you do but that’s the risk you take.

@JkL , just ignore that person! There’s way better people to talk about beliefs with.

I Agree with you 100%. I’m Christian and I hang out with my friends who aren’t Christain. You just belive in what you belive in.

While I don’t agree with your political views, I will, however, say that your “friend” was in the wrong to beat you up like that. You’re entitled to your views on politics. However, I have found that talking politics with people (specifically my age, 16-17 years old), isn’t a good thing to do. Teenagers don’t like it when people are different. I don’t know if where you live it’s predominantly left or right wing or a mix, but teenagers tend to go with what they hear from their teachers or parents, and stick with that. I also don’t know if this “friend” is educated on politics or not. My advice to you is to maybe not share this view with others. I’m all for sharing beliefs but if you’re putting yourself in danger it’s not a good idea to do so.

Don’t say this bud. If you believe in socialism and you think it’s the “right way,” don’t create/add to a stereotype of Socialists. People prone to naïveté might take it the wrong way and you’ll have the adverse effect of what you’re going for. This is what lead the Republicans wrong this past election: misunderstandments and STUPID statements. The whole “binders full of women” incident and the tea party 'pubs that gave the dim-witted statements regarding rape and abortion were some of the factors that led to moderates and undecideds voting for Obama.

It is unfortunate that your neighbor attacked you for simply expressing your beliefs… Even still, you must remember that this is a very uncivil era and politics/religion are both very touchy subjects. If you take an extremely unpopular stance on a certain issue (keep in mind, the word “socialism” is generally used as an insult in American politics), you may provoke others unintentionally. Unfortunately, the last sentence in your post may cause others to assume that your behavior was at least *partially* responsible for instigating the fight. Personally, while I respect some scholars/academics who identify as socialists (such as Noam Chomsky), I do not much care for the idea of abolishing capitalism. However, I also do not believe that the free market will solve all of our economic and social ills by itself; regulation and government intervention is often necessary because capitalism tends to favor the rich and powerful members of society at the expense of the poor. In addition, single-payer healthcare seems like a very good idea for this country; it may be too soon to implement such a plan, but overtime, I believe that public opinion may change.

If this were Reddit, I would give you an upvote.

Even if people don’t agree on politics, they should still have respect for others. Obviously your neighbor was lacking on this.:confused:Anyway, I think Rangers summed up what I think on this topic pretty well.

The first thing I would do is report him for assault. People getting attacked for any beliefs (I am a Secular Humanist) is completely disgusting. People are allowed to have their own opinions and that is completely fine. New opinions change the world. But if people try to suppress that, they can be considered a different species, per se. Humans are highly evolved and our sense of free will and differing opinions comes with that. If they suppress it, they are just one step below on the evolutionary scale.

If you want to get back at him, just get him arrested for assult as Tiagoroth mentioned.

I have to admit I lost a little respect for you in that post, @jkl1234 . Not because you’re a socialist…to each his own. It was that last sentence.

I do believe in staying away from political stuffs. I simply ignore such discussions regardless of whether they are good or bad. @jkl1234 simply avoid them and getting them arrested might just extend an invitation to further nuisance. Political beliefs have always been a bully because when someone tries to object a belief , they should know that the belief itself is not just a belief but a huge network and people often violate laws and get away because of this political network. Hope you are in good shape, try forgetting the accident as a bad dream. Frustration will only extend your anger and who knows this anger might just explode the way it exploded on you and that’s how I quote "We are Humans Too ".
